Apologies, I thought that db posting the link to the story yesterday was enough context. My "faith group code" is still listed, so I have no skin in this game.

They kept Druid?
cheese

Ha! Maybe one of the 3 kinds of Wiccan they had listed, but I guess fall under No Religion, even though they used to have No Religion, Atheist, and Humanist listed. I just post about Celtic festivals from a cultural perspective, rather than a religious one.

Discussion: Bari Weiss Poised to Ruin "60 Minutes"

drummerboy said:

i was actually referring to the stars. i'm quite sure they'd do just fine.

but as for everyone else on staff - do you think that anyone with "60 minutes" on their resume would have trouble finding a job?

Not to be pointlessly argumentative, but I will take issue with the assumption that landing a job in broadcast television is anything but challenging these days. Broadcast media outlets are not thriving today.

It may seem like a minor quibble, but it’s part of the reason that someone like Weiss can do what she’s doing. A lot of the staff members have probably worked for years to get where they are. Giving that up for the uncertainty of the job market has to be daunting. Plus heaven only knows what blacklist you’d end up on.

Just my thoughts.

Discussion: Summer Weather Thread

Monday June 8th

The week starts warm and dry then midsummer happens

Today, clouds thin out and we should end up with afternoon sun and a high around 80⁰, humidity lingers. Low tonight mid 50⁰s

Tuesday, sunnier, less humid, a bit warmer, high in the low to mid 80⁰s, overnight lows lower 60⁰s

Wednesday, might see a shower in the morning, then chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon. High mid 80⁰s, low around 70⁰

The back end of the week is still a bit unclear, but it is likely to include highs around 90⁰, moderate humidity, and possibly afternoon thunderstorms

Discussion: RIP Suzanne Ng - Long-time Poster on MOL

saw on FB that she passed after what seems like a fairly lengthy illness she was fighting with an optimistic spirit. I looked up her comments here and apparently she hadn't posted in nearly a decade, which would explain why my memory of her contributions were kind of fuzzy. But it seems like she was here mostly to give or request good advice. I never met her but she seemed like a positive person. And as mrincredible noted, gone too soon.

Discussion: Summer Weather Thread

...HEAT ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM NOON THURSDAY TO 8 PM EDT
FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values up to near 100 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of northeast New Jersey and southeast New York.

* WHEN...From noon Thursday to 8 PM EDT Friday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
  illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity
is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or
more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.

Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health
conditions are at an increased risk. Homes without air conditioning
can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures.

Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has
air conditioning. If you don`t have home air conditioning, continue
to seek out cool spaces each day as long as it remains hot, and for
a few days after if your home is still hot. Check on vulnerable
friends, family members and neighbors.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! In cases of heat stroke call 9 1 1.

i'm pretty sure one can find some measure of peace with their god without the intercession of a military and somewhat generic chaplain.

pretty sure.

Maybe we should give more weight to those enlisted and making use of those chaplains than to the thoughts of us thinking about it abstractly from home?

Discussion: What does Putin want (and whatabout it)

During last month’s Victory Day celebration, I don’t recall her complaining that Russia was celebrating the victory of a murderous, totalitarian regime. No, she was happy to accept the framing of it as celebrating the defeat of another murderous, totalitarian regime. So when she wants to, it appears she is in fact able to do nuance. And yet, in the case of Ukraine, she insists that the framing of celebrating resistance to foreign domination be rejected. Funny how her views always line up so completely with Putin propaganda.

Discussion: Why did Sheena have anything to do with him?

DanDietrich said:

This is proof that no matter who you support or why someone will have a reason to oppose them.  I supported Fulop mainly because I thought he would take NJ transit issues and municipal consolidation seriously. I don't know what his position was on animal shelters.

I was told by Sheena that he had a high rating on animal advocacy.

I've been explaining to neighbors in both towns that the Essex County funding for TNR is being withheld by Associated Humane. They contracted with People for Animals to do free TNR. The rules were anyone who trapped a community cat could bring it for free spay or neuter, with ear tip, without an appointment. One cat per person per day. I was doing it for people, had a couple of friends who helped and we succeeded in preventing more births. PFA performed the surgery, AHS would pay them and get reimbursed by the county. That just ended at the height of kitten season. We are now getting calls about dead kittens or cats with litters born in garages. Imagine a child walking into their garage and finding a dead kitten.

Not anyone's fault, just pregnant homeless cats looking for a place to give birth. The litter in the picture was an emergency. One kitten had fallen off the shelf in a closed garage and was presumed to be dead. I rushed it to Valley Vet, it was hyperthermic, dying. I was able to catch the mother and get the baby and other kittens into a carrier. I held them till a could find a foster.

I can't do TNR alone with no place to do recovery. At minimum I need a recovery spot to hold a few cats at a time until they can be released.

Also a small fund held by the town for spay neuter of community cats.

And the best help would be a couple of small rooms in a public spot for the kittens who are found to meet adopters.

I've lived here for 30 years and been rescuing for 25, 15 of those as a registered non-profit but with no shelter, and an ACO company with no shelter, and no place to do TNR, I'm a cat swimming upstream.
