exactly. People from anywhere in the country have standing to demonstrate against a federal agency.
and at this point she's backed herself into a corner and it will be awfully hard for her to de-escalate the troopers' tactics without losing face. I guess we'll find out if she's too stubborn to do the smart thing or will continue to double down on provoking the violence.
The outdoor security was transferred to the Newark police from the state police.
And what if there were some bad actors who came in to stir up trouble in an attempt to discredit the protestors, and elicit a violent response from ICE and the police? It wouldn’t surprise me.
It seems like a lot of people are lining up to throw Sherrill under the bus. I’m not saying this wasn’t a mistake. But the long knives seem to have come out on both sides.
I'm not "lining up" with anyone. But Sherrill deserves all the criticism she's getting. It was a huge mistake to send a riot squad of troopers to Newark.
She should know better. Anyone paying the least bit of attention to history knew what she did was going to provoke violence instead of preventing it. Sure, send in the police, but in regular uniform, not armor and shields.

Former First Lady Dr. Jill Biden PATRICK T. FALLON/AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE/GETTY IMAGES
Everyone could see what was happening right before our eyes, except the Bidens? I find that extremely hard to accept — greed and a lust for power played major roles. From the WSJ today…..
“Jill Biden is out promoting her new memoir, and as for regrets she doesn’t have a few. Only one really: In retrospect she wishes her husband hadn’t run for a second term. “As I look back,” the former first lady told NBC, “would I want to put Joe through the hurt and the pain that we felt during that time? Never. Never. I mean, it was so hurtful.”
”Democrats are furious at this ex post admission, and we can see why. Mrs. Biden has finally seen the light, two years later. Yet she won’t admit in the interviews or book excerpts we’ve seen that she played a crucial role in urging her husband to run again. By every account and our own reporting, she liked the White House and celebrity life and wanted Mr. Biden to serve until January 2029.
“Even now Mrs. Biden denies that she saw signs of cognitive decline in Mr. Biden as President. When pressed on CBS, she said he was “definitely aging” and “slowing down” but was “the essence of the same Joe Biden.” Apparently she didn’t see, or didn’t want to see, what Americans told pollsters they could see with their own eyes.
“Or what special counsel Robert Hur in 2024 told the country he saw in his interview with the President over Mr. Biden’s handling of classified documents: a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
“Thus Mrs. Biden says it was a shock when Joe performed so poorly in that fateful late June debate with Donald Trump. “As I watched it, I thought, ‘Oh my God, he’s having a stroke,’” she told CBS. “And it scared me to death.”
“Yet that isn’t what she told the public after the debate. She said then that her husband had done “such a great job” and “answered every question.” The first couple also tried to keep the second-term dream alive despite the growing calls from Democrats after the debate that he had to drop out.
“Three days after the debate Mrs. Biden told the magazine Vogue, in connection with a glamorous cover shoot featuring her, that the Bidens “will not let those 90 minutes define the four years he’s been President.”
“As for what she said after the debate, she now says: “I’m his wife. I’m not going to get out on the stage there and say, ‘Joe, you really screwed that up.’ I mean, and we have all of our supporters there.”
“The truth is that the Bidens clung to the Presidency like life itself until it became impossible to do so. They only pulled the plug when Nancy Pelosiand others threatened to go public and stage a coup if they didn’t drop out first. We use the word “they” here deliberately because of Mrs. Biden’s role.
“This was a monumental act of selfishness, and the Democratic Party paid the price. Without a competitive primary, the party reacted to Mr. Biden’s late withdrawal by rushing to anoint Vice President Kamala Harris as the default nominee.
“The party’s 2024 candidate switcheroo was a political debacle of historic proportions. Mr. Biden asked voters to keep him in office until age 86, and Democrats fell into line in a protective phalanx until close to the end. The only dissenter was Dean Phillips, the former Minnesota Congressman who predicted that Mr. Biden would lose if he ran and the only serious candidate to challenge Mr. Biden in the primary. He was a prophet without a party.
“Mrs. Biden seems to bear a grudge against Ms. Harris because she sought Joe’s immediate endorsement. As we advised at the time, Democrats could have benefited from a competitive party convention to choose a nominee. The country would have been riveted to the event as a rare actual political drama.
“But the original sin was Joe Biden’s decision to run for a second term, abetted and encouraged by Jill. They won’t admit it, but they both deserve outsize credit for helping Donald Trump win a second term.”
I don't buy that another candidate would have beaten Trump. Too many millions of uninformed and misinformed voters bought the idiotic notion that Trump was going to bring down the cost of their groceries "on day one." Too many people were angry at Democrats for the price of daily staples and wanted them out of office.
that said, your focus on Joe Biden, who was rapidly aging but not demented seems even more absurd as we watch the current POTUS descend into some sort of debilitating mental illness before our very eyes. A man who stays up all night ranting and raving on "truth" social. A man who can't focus on what he calls "boring" negotiations to end an illegal war he started for no good reason.
why don't you spend more time worrying about the guy in the White House now driving the country into the ground, and give up concerning yourself with Joe Biden who at least was a competent steward of the presidency, regardless of what else you think of him.
▢½ cup red lentils, picked over, rinsed, and drained
▢3¼ cups water, ,divided
▢1 teaspoon organic safflower or other neutral oil
▢¾ cup coarsely chopped onion
▢4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
▢1 /2 inch fresh ginger, peeled and minced or grated, 1/2-inch [1cm]
▢3 tbsp red curry paste
▢2 cups cubed sweet potatoes
▢1-2 cups assorted veggies such as , peppers, or zucchini, broccoli or a mix
▢13.5 oz can full-fat coconut milk
▢1 teaspoon salt
▢1½ tbsp raw sugar or other sweetener
▢¼ teaspoon cayenne
▢Zest of 1 lime
▢1 teaspoon fresh lime or lemon juice
▢½ cup loosely packed fresh Thai basil or sweet basil
Instructions
Combine the lentils with 2½ cups (600ml) of the water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook the lentils for 13 to 15 minutes**, or until they are al dente, stirring once halfway through the cooking time. Drain the lentils and set aside.
Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, and a pinch of salt and cook until the onion is translucent, about 4 minutes. Add the ginger and red curry paste, and stir to combine. Cook the mixture for 1 to 2 minutes, until the paste is fragrant. Add the veggies and sweet potato, and mix well. (If using broccoli, you can add it in with the lentils later on, so it doesn't overcook.)
Add the coconut milk, remaining ¾ cup (180ml) water, salt, sugar, cayenne, lime zest, and lime juice, and stir to combine. Cover and cook for 10 mins or until sweet potatoes are cooked.
Add the cooked lentils, and bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Taste and adjust the seasonings. Reduce the heat to low. Add the Thai basil. Cover the saucepan and simmer for a few minutes, until the vegetables are cooked through and the flavors meld. Garnish with the basil and lime wedges.
I have not done an in-depth study on this. Somebody ought to. Pay me and I might. It is in my wheelhouse. On its face, the implications are simple and clear. Data centers are good. No, not just good, they are a boon to social welfare. If anybody can offer a better analysis, I’d be all ears. In all the innumerable screeds against DC’s, I have never seen a decent argument. That DCs increase utility rates is not an argument, nor is it even accurate (see below). Even if true, it ignores the benefit side of the equation: the offset to tax revenue and the gains to public spending.
so I started poking around to get more info. one of the biggest arguments against them involve increased water usage, but that seems to be way overblown and mis-targeted. if you're really concerned about water usage, go after lawns and almond milk production.
what do you guys think?
One question, are they building data centers where rich people live?
One place I think would be perfect for a data center is the former Budweiser brewery on Route 1 in Newark, near Newark Airport. It's a massive industrial building, there's already an extensive electricity infrastructure, and as a former brewery it already has a large connection to the water infrastructure.
But it's not cheap land in the middle of nowhere, so it's probably not on the list for anybody who builds one of these things.
The company that bought it is intending to build a data center in the old New York Daily News print plant footprint by Liberty Science Center, so don't rule it out yet.

Trump's left historical, spiritual, and literal wreckage and his term isn't even half over.

A couple of thoughts, lifted from elsewhere.
I wonder if they realise that holding an outdoor event on the White House lawn totally invalidates the argument for a high security ballroom…
And ...
Trump making half-naked sweaty men fight on his front lawn is a great way to celebrate Pride Month. Hats off to him.
