The Rose Garden and White House happenings: Listening to voters’ concerns

I am disheartened that no one has commented on the 75th anniversary of D-Day — the “Greatest Generation” deserves more. The NYTphoto essay I posted earlier garnered zero response. Surely Jesus wept.

 I'll respond.

My dad fought Nazis and helped liberate a concentration camp.

He would be rolling in his grave knowing an American President who refers to Neo-Nazis as fine people was given the opportunity to speak at D-Day ceremonies.

No one wants to be reminded of how far we've fallen.  The spiritual successor to Mussolini representing the US at D-Day commemorations?  It ought to be unthinkable.

He kind of puts a damper on the whole thing, ya know?

My mother used to wake early each D-Day, reminding us that France was free, Paris was no longer occupied because of D-Day. Remember, as a French Jew she spent those years in absolute terror, hiding in an attic and carrying false ID papers. Her younger brother had been sent to a farm in Brittany, to live as a Catholic farmhand.

Her father, rounded up in an infamous Paris aktion, was one of the first French Jews killed in Auschwitz; the Nazis took great delight in destroying his art. (Maman used to tell us anecdotes of Chagall and other famous artists coming over for weekly soirées)

So you can imagine our family’s horror that Australia chose to commemorate D-Day by suppressing media freedoms, civil liberties and the protection of journalists’ sources.

It was a little bit of levity mixed with fact regarding non-trinitarians.  Sorry to hear that you don't do levity.

You know me better than that, proeasdf. We’re old pals here.

you have a very odd way of characterizing articles.

I clicked "Reply to this" but have no reply.  I cannot add anything to this.

drummerboy - Not sure what you are talking about. Ernie Pyle was a hero.

Christ's Gospel hits too close to home for people like her. Makes them feel uncomfortable and/or aggressive. Remember the Pharisees?
Perhaps mtierney is a closet Unitarian*.  Or perhaps a Mormon* or Jehovah's Witness*.
Nice work taking the inventory of others (NOT!!).
*- all non-trinitarians.

You'd have to be unfamiliar with those three faith traditions to comment as if their members are unfamiliar with the Gospels.
 I think not.   Nice non-sequitur.
If someone is familiar with the gospels, then does that make them a trinitarian?

My answer:  no.

I could post the results of internet searches, but since you probably have access to the Google, you could do that yourself instead of relying on your own misimpressions.

I will give one hint:  When you look up the Mormons, don't be surprised that their formal name is "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints". I knew that without checking the Google first, btw.

As you would expect, titles are not always definitive.  In this instance, the legal name of the Mormons (namely, the  "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints") does not define the church's view or role regarding Jesus Christ as you have asserted.  This principle (viz. the legal name is not always definitive of the role or viewpoint) is also exemplified by the following: the "Defense Department", "Right to Work" law (various states have similar laws with similar titles), "Defense of Marriage Act", "The Internet Freedom Act", etc.   See the following link regarding Mormons, Jesus and non-trinitarianism:   https://www.gotquestions.org/Mormons-believe-Trinity.html

Excerpt from the above link:  "Mormonism’s founder, Joseph Smith, clearly rejected the Trinity [emphasis added]. He wrote, “Many men say there is one God; the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost are only one God. I say that is a strange God. . . . All are crammed into one God according to sectarianism [the Christian faith]. It would make the biggest God in all the world. He would be a wonderfully big God—he would be a giant or a monster” (Teachings, p. 372). Other Mormon writers such as James Talmage have confirmed Mormon denial of the Trinity (Articles of Faith, p.35) [emphasis added]."

Well, technically it is always there, 24/7

Wouldn’t it be grand if Mrs. Trump could become a role model for the women’s movement? Nah, not possible, the hatred is ingrained.

In what sense would you envision her being a role model?

Other than marrying the most loathsome man on earth - what has she accomplished that would make her a role model?

That's one tough assignment you three have asked for.

I don't have a daughter but if I did, "marry a rich *******" would not be my advice to her.

Mrs. Trump has managed to hold her head up high, retain her dignity, and present a calm demeanor in the face of the most hurtful attack on a First Lady I have ever seen. Remember I have been around a looong time.

Mrs. Eisenhower drew criticism over her bangs hairstyle.

Mrs Reagan was seen as someone who used astrology to help her husband — spooky and evil.

Mrs Johnson suffered the behavior of her husband stoically — keeping the First Lady role foremost. No surprise, but America elects a package deal for President.

Mrs Kennedy was revered by the public and survived the gruesome  killing of her husband with dignity — calming a bereft nation.

Both Bush wives conducted themselves as First Lady, with dignity — during great times of stress.

Mrs Obama was an vivid example of taking on the position as First Lady with dignity and grace.

What has changed everything is our 24/7 news cycle, social media, unflinching desire by the media to tarnish pols and their families by exposing, or inventing, tawdry stories, perhaps decades old, to meet their deadlines and competition.

In this climate, Mrs Trump, vulnerable and foreign-born, has been courageous and dignified.

So apparently Trump is taking over 4th of July celebrations now. He is re-branding it, moving activities around to make place for a keynote speaker (himself of course), extending time of the fireworks so it can be branded as the biggest fireworks ever. I wish this came from the Borowitz Report, but I am afraid it is real.

Just remember, everything that Trump touches goes to ****. That now includes America too.

I am not quite sure what you are talking about.  Is it Stormy Daniels or the other porn stars?  I would think of that as more of an attack on her by her husband than anything else.

Sticking with the husband who doesn't use protection when he cheats on you with porn starts does not strike me as a model our daughters should be emulating. Assuming that she still has conjugal relations with the Dumpster, he has exposed her to a number of potential disease vectors. The man is a living petri dish.

I hope she gets herself tested on a regular basis.

Chuckle.... with the Dumpster, there is never the need to invent tawdry stories.

A person would only need a memory that goes back to 2009 to know what an absurdly untrue statement this is.

I wouldn't dignify any of the outrageously racist things said and written about Michelle Obama by quoting them here.

Suffice to say your statement is bizarrely out of touch with reality,
