Trump's Speech: HO-LEEEEEEEEEEEEEE FUUUUUUCCCCKKK HE IS NUTS!

i heard even if he succeeds in getting funding, it will take 10 years to build, and when he is out of office in 2 years, I would think it would not be finished.

I wonder if Trump is considering a steel fence instead of the concrete wall because if we used Chinese steel then China would be paying for it.  You know, tariffs and all.

I quite enjoyed the rebuttal from Morticia and Gomez.  Salient points made.

Years and years will pass before eminent domain issues and other suits are resolved. The whole matter is ridiculous and unnecessary. A fcuking wall? In 2019? How can anyone take this stuff seriously. As many have joked, why not a moat with alligators?

I think Trump losing the 2020 election is not a foregone conclusion.

So if they start building the wall, how many Democrats would run on repealing the wall funding?

I assume you are aware that water is a problem in the American Southwest.  One of you worst ideas ever.

I’m pretty sure he was being facetious...

Preaching to the choir on this thread.  Over on FB SOMA there are real people who live here who support him and liked his speech.
Which group? I can't find anything in the SOMA Talks Politics page.
And definitely not in the Lounge.  Is there a SOMA MAGA closed group that I'm probably not allowed to join?
Definitely in lounge.  Read the replies to Sheena's post

Found it. It was just a post by Sheena, not in the Lounge. I counted 3 people, one of which moved to the Shore a few years ago, and used to post here as Metalart.

Horseshit. There's plenty of water. Just dig a trench between the Gulf and the Pacific, it'll fill in within 20 minutes.

Democrats and Republicans have agreed on border security improvements over the years including many miles of fencing.  Fences are helpful in some areas and make sense.

The problem with Trump is that he isn't asking for a comprehensive review of immigration policies and border security.  He is fixated on a literal wall which is not really needed except to honor a racist campaign pledge to build a wall to keep out brown people.

The Art of the Deal:

Just left a meeting with Chuck and Nancy, a total waste of time. I asked what is going to happen in 30 days if I quickly open things up, are you going to approve Border Security which includes a Wall or Steel Barrier? Nancy said, NO. I said bye-bye, nothing else works!

He never mentioned Border Security, only said "wall."

Ok, state of emergency then? I don't see how he has any other options. Not that that is going to work, he will be in court for the next 4 years.

His whole goal is to get it tied up in the courts so he can tell his base that he tried but his hands are tied.  He doesn't care about actually building a wall.   He just wants votes.

I think you are right, which is why this is an ideal off-ramp for him.

I completely disagree. I don’t think he cares about votes really at all. He’s simply mad because he wants something he can’t have. He’s mad because he said something was going to happen and now it’s not. So, he’s going to keep trying to get that thing even if his approach COSTS him votes.

He’s like a child pouting for a toy.

But he doesn't care about the security of the border region or the US as a whole even if the border wall were a reasonable solution to anything.   The point is that his feigned concern for security buys him votes from those susceptible to fear mongering.

We seem to be in violent agreement.

someone somewhere made the quite valid point that by this time, we've already fenced those parts of the border that deserve to be fenced. Anything further would do nothing to help the problem.
