The MOL "Free to a Good Home" (Freecycle) Thread

Posted By: jersey_boy
I missed this. I'll take LEGOs, unless that was a made up example. Whisper me, silkcity. I'll pick up, and I promise not to turn the meeting into a home invasion
i knew you'd want the legos!

Posted By: galileoMOL does have freecycle. Look at the first page. Click on Classifieds.
it's not the same as posting items on the message boards. don't know how to explain it.

btw we have several five foot plus brown shelves if anyone wants them. my brother in law brought them down from the attic saturday and the person who wanted them still hasn't picked them up. i emailed them yesterday to tell them if they don't pick them up by tue night they were going on the garbage truck wednesday.

Jamie - can you make this section easier to get to?

I'm always in the classifieds - it's easy already because they separated it - they put it in a different section (with garage sales, and the like) in the upper right-hand corner. It's under a blue header that says 'Other'

JML: Can you call in your cards with the news people and have them ask Jamie and Dave to feature a MSO Freecycle link more prominently?

Well I just tried to post an ad in the Free classified to give away a Nokia flip phone. I got an email from MOL that I need to pay $3.99, so forget that.

Edited to add: Whisper me if anyone wants a free Nokia flip phone:

I have a small white microwave, like new, if anyone wants it. Whisper me.

This seems kind of ridiculous to me. Why would someone want to spend $3.99 to GIVE something away? Not only are you not making money, you are actually spending some.

Jamie said it was free to post something that was free.

Yes, he did, but that doesn't seem to be mem's experience.

I see that. Hopefully it will be cleared up.

OK, Jamie told me how to do it. It's there now. Thanks Jamie...

No one wants a free Framistam?

kidsbooks - LOVE the Book Pantry!

I sent you a whisper.

note to Jamie -- I think a "free" forum category will bring more traffic than the free classifieds do. Pete

Ditto. Something for you guys to think about...

Agree. It's so much easier.

i don't find it unweldy to use the system as it is now. maybe there is just a small learning curve.

I think there's a small awareness curve. People do seem to notice threads about free stuff much more readily than they tend to visit the classifieds...

My problem with advertising free items in the classifieds is that it's more "public" than using the message boards, or at least it feels that way, & to me the exposure is not so appealing when I'm not making any financial gain through the transaction. The message board is different, somehow, feels more like you're dealing with family than with strangers, even when I've never met most of you.

To that end, anyone want an old-ish but still working HP scanner and/or color printer? We got a new all-in-one over the holidays, and would love to pass the old ones on to someone who could make good use of them.

amandacat, if you have no takers on your scanner/printer, don't forget that SO/Maplewood is having the 1st electronics recycling day of the year on Sat Feb 6th at the Maplewood recycling center.

Posted By: crazy_quilterhow heavy are the shelves? if i can carry them myself, i could pick them up on friday, if not, then maybe Sunday?
i don't think they're all that heavy. the boards are long though. about five feet.

Hey, with your pull I think we can make Oprah to do an entire show on it

i am all for a "free" thread on the boards as opposed to having to use the classifieds...I am on the boards a few times a day...classifieds, not so much....

and if we are going to call Oprah...count me in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So many of us go directly into the Message Board and seldom even use the homepage that it would seem a dedicated thread or section on MOL would be far more effective for the freecycling of treasure in need of a good home than a free classifieds section buried under "Other."

Well if they'll build a dedicated button - perhaps it can be a link on the left-hand side here, where all the categories are.

I have stacks of National Geographic magazines - anyone want them?

Mem - CQ will take them!

Amandacat -

What's the model # of the printer/scanner - 1978 Arts Center needs a printer - we'll even give you a letter for your taxes.
