Steely Dan sound like Captain & Tennille if they smoked weed. Except the weed was really pencil-shavings and everybody at the party is playing Magic The Gathering. Every time I hear one of their songs, I feel like someone’s playing a prank on me. Nobody really likes this, right? Somebody from Steely Dan surely won a bet with the president of radio in 1974 and nobody ever caught on.

I'm not a Steely Dan guy either ... In fact, I hold them directly responsible for bands like Toto and Mister Mister ...

Still a tie.

I'm there. Front row of section 401. Got in on the Thursday Live Nation presale. The best cheap seats in the house. As much as I love both bands, I can't pay $250 for a concert ticket.

Now that we are all ticketed (those that can and want to be), I think it's time for favorite Steely Dan and/or Elvis Costello lines!

She serves the smooth retsina
She keeps me safe and warm
It's just the calm before the storm
Call in my reservation
So long hey thanks my friend
I guess I'll try my luck again

You walked in
And my life began again
Just when I'd spent the last piaster
I could borrow

Hey nineteen
That's 'Retha Franklin
She don't remember the Queen of Soul

It only took my little fingers to blow you away. ..

Well, that was fun. I've seen Elvis four or five times before, and this wasn't disappointing*. I've never seen Steely Dan before, and this show was a spectacle. Hugely entertaining.

*I do kind of wish they'd played together.

Is this Donald Fagen Steely Dan? Seeing Van Halen at PNC and agree it's an awful venue.

Yes, both Fagen and Becker.

And as far as Elvis is concerned... even though I've seen the movie, the song never gets old. So glad to hear him dig it up.
