Old Thread About Snow on Friday, March 10

Thanks Max. My kid woke up 30 minutes ago and thought I was a nut case for saying there would be snow. Tada! Now to decide if he wants to walk or get a ride to school...

Headed up to Boston in a couple of hours. What can we expect taking 95 north? Thanks.

Moderate snow the whole way

Thanks all!

We're about to head to Washington DC for weekend. Had hoped to leave early, but figured I'd let the traffic pass. There's really no snow to speak of so far, and it's 36 degrees.

Iif there really will be 5" or so, we'll hold off to clean drive and walks first, but is that likely? Would love to get down to DC!

Is it a bust or will there really be several inches of snow today?

I think that would be "snow it begins"

good one!

Update from the NWS. 2 - 4",

Temps are still dropping. It is now below freezing in MAPSO. Snow will begin accumulating on roads as they cool off.

Roads, both side roads and highways, were good for us. We got to Clifton and back with no issues.

I'm glad we were able to make it to the doctor's office, the stitches had been intertwined with his hair when they put them in (I told the ER to cut his hair, they claimed it wasn't necessary), his hair is almost the same color as the stitches, and the skin on his scalp was tight. Plus he's four, so add being squirmy to the mix even with two of us trying to hold him still. The doctor had some difficulty getting them out, I can't imagine how difficult it would have been for me to try taking them out given the same circumstances.

Snow tapering off this afternoon. Daylight helped by keeping the temps near or above freezing for most of the snowfall. When the snow stops, they should tick up to the mid 30s for awhile before falling precipitously into the teens tonight.

Some small snow squalls may pass through this afternoon, with no great effect.

Watch for ice in the morning.

Sidewalks still clear thankfully. Assume no further accumulation from this storm.

DiMartino nailed this one -- said 1-4 on grass, a trace to an inch on the roads.

2.5" at casa W as of 1:00pm

So I hope no shoveling when I get home.

Seems the NWS, at 3" - 5" really nailed it.

Given the utter lack of snow on the roads, I think his early & repeated reporting on that gives him the edge on this one.

The NWS never distinguishes between hard and soft surfaces. Snow totals are measured on snow boards placed on the ground for consistency and record keeping purposes, so it really is not fair to compare the NWS forecast to what DiMartino said, since he forecast something they don't do. But his 1 - 4 was low.

So, when should we start worrying about Stella?
