And before Trump, comparisons to Glenn Beck and Ronald Reagan:

When I moved here from the city, I had a real estate partner who loved Glenn Beck and begged me to watch him for a stretch, something crazy like a 40 day challenge. She was smart and funny so I gave it a try. I was bewildered. Kind of like the time a beloved friend and her husband asked me to try EST. Yikes. Well I do try to go the extra mile for my pals.

Saw LAND last night, with Robin Wright. Liked it very much. Gorgeously shot in the Canadian Rockies. Slow-moving, emotional tale of profound loss and heartbreak  - and coping - or not coping. Only 90 minutes long. One of the few times I thought, "gee, this movie could have been longer."

Where did you see Land?  Again it's $19.99 to rent.  So annoying.

Sounded like Robin Wright escorted him.

Last night I watched Coming 2 America. In summary: I loved it.

So many great comic actors, such great set and costume (!!) design, makeup, special effects, cool musical bits, funny plot. It helps to have seen the original but not required for this eye-popping laugh fest. Wesley Snipes a delicious tongue-in-cheek surprise. Cool cameos by, among others, Gladys Knight, Morgan freeman, and Salt n Pepa. And Eddie and Arsenio hamming it up to great effect.

Silly? Yes. But So much fun.

glad to hear you liked it. It's been getting trashy reviews, but I think when they trash movies like this, they're not really getting the spirit of it. I love the original.

Watching it now. Great to see so many of the original cast members.

I founding Coming 2 America disappointing. Too much reliance on nostalgia for the original. The script was messy, the young lead actor had no presence, and there were so many lost opportunities to actually be funny.

Wesley Snipes was a standout, however.

I disagree, but I also didn't technically pay for this, as it's on Amazon Prime.  They did not go for any surprises, but what do you expect from a follow up sequel to a movie that old? Also, the twin rapping women were a hysterical the second time around.  Next up, House Party 2 (but just the music, please).

We bit the bullet and paid for Raya and The Last Dragon.  I have to tell you, it was very enjoyable.  Great animation, good story and characters, very nice message about unity (but not so much about tolerance, where they caved).  In direct opposition to this, I started watching Judas and The Black Messiah.  Could not get through it after watching Raya.  May actually let this one go, but for different reasons.

Anyone else a fan of Dodgeball? I have to watch it whenever it airs, which happens to be now.

Such a good cast of goofballs. Such a dumb premise.

Justin Bateman and Gary Cole doing color are hilarious.

Rip Torn throwing wrenches.

The car wash.

And the cameos!

Just marvelous.

Steve the Pirate was my favorite.

We watched Airplane and Top Secret as a double bill last night. Still love these two.

I never really got Top Secret for some reason, but I still watch Airplane.

And speaking of Steve the Pirate, Alan Tudyk is starring in a new series called Resident Alien, which I've been enjoying.

I got through the rest of Coming 2 America.  I guess if you're nostalgic for the original it may be tolerable.  Costumes were good.  But overall, 1.5 stars for me.  If you want a recent Eddie Murphy flick that's good see Dolemite.

I saw Sound of Metal - excellent!  3.5 stars (out of 4)

Top Secret was good - I need to re-watch it, it's been awhile.  There haven't been many movies recently with parody and slapstick humor.   I always like watching Hot Shots and am always surprised that it doesn't show on top 100 funniest movie lists.

Resident Alien has really grown on us.  Always liked Tudyk.

 me too

I wasn't really sure where it was going at first, but I like what they're doing. I also really like what they did with the kid who can see him.

I like the kid, which is not often the case for me with kid roles in TV shows.  The sheriff is hilarious.

yeah, at first I was put off by the sheriff, but now I get it.

I understand not getting Top Secret. It took me a few watches to fully see what it was, but as a pastiche of spy/WW2 and Elvis movies, seemingly set either in the 50s, 60s or 1984 (take your pick) it is a bit of a hodge-podge of ideas that didn't really have that much of a story to hang onto (whereas Airplane is almost beat-by-beat Zero Hour! with additional elements of the Airport movies of the 70s). I've learned to just go in for the ride.

I only wish they'd continued Police Squad! as I thought that format was so much more rich than the later Naked Gun movies, but I have to admit I love all that kind of stuff, if I know the genre well and Pat Proft is minimally involved the script.

I found Wank, er, Mank unwatchable.

I fell asleep on it 3 times and still have half an hour left.

It wasn't as bad as Bar and Star Go to Drecktown with Kristen Wiig, but it was baaad.

The perfect March 17 film if you can rent it. As someone who grew up singing about Selkies, I loved this film.

It's a movie, but are we going to talk about the Snyders Cut of Justice League?  If you had tomatoes and could, would you be throwing them at me right now? Part of me is curious to watch, another part of me is willing to wait months before I even attempt.  The original was such a hot mess, I wonder if I can take another two hours added on of brooding actors in costumes.

Honest Thief with Liam Neeson was very entertaining fluff.
