Jon Stewart Leaving Daily Show

I don't actually think that will happen. Regular network tv news might just disappear first, while stuff like The Daily Show continues to flourish, in some form.

Well one thing the replacement won't be - it won't be someone outside of the the party line statist left.

celebritynetworth.com has him sitting on 80mill. My guess is he will do some cameos, produce a show or two and maybe some occasional standup A-LA Jerry Seinfeld but other than that he will be done.

Thanks to all for helping my feeble brain

My though is quite simple and I should have put two and two together ...they are all entertainers ..bottom line .
So yes , that works ..none of them seriously knows any history to make any presentations ....

I think Larry Wilmore is doing a terrific job with the Nightly Show.
I liked Larry WIlmore's 'bits' on Daily show, but i'm not into the new show yet. It's like a Bill Maher show. maybe he'll hit his stride at some point. ("Keep it 100"...every show? no.)

Yes, agree that Keep it 100 on every show is pretty lame. Still, the writing is tight and I expect he will hit his stride.

But it's Comedy Central, so for all we know it'll end up being Carlos Mencia.

They could save a lot of money by not hiring a writing staff.

Very true. Even funnier for me because I have a friend who wrote for his CC show. Yeah, he was a talentless hack.

Cosby? He's available.

Well, I don't think anyone saw this coming.

Bold and risky choice. I'm sure some longtime Daily Show people are PISSED. Perhaps that's why Jason Jones just left the show last week.

TBS picked up a half hour sitcom that Jones developed and will produce.

The Daily Show is so "American" Not sure it's gonna work in its current form with the new So African host.

Jason Jones had a chance a few months ago when Jon was sick and wasn't very good. I know it was last minute, but even pulling Sam Bee to help co-anchor, it just didn't work.

Noah's got some good things going for him. He's comfortable in front of the camera and has been working with political satire for a long time. It will be a very different show, though, just as JS's Daily Show was very different from Craig Kilborn's. What will make or break it will be how he covers next year's election. His humor is different from someone like Jon Oliver, who has always been inclusive of American culture - while some things might be funny to him because they're new and different, I don't think he makes fun of them simply for those reasons. Noah seems to do that, and if he continues to make the American way of life the target for his humor, rather than the foibles of its people within those parameters, he's not going to have a happy time of it.

I think one of the reasons why Piers Morgan failed so badly was his condescending attitude towards American culture. It's one of those things that okay to do if you are part of the group, but not cool if you are from outside the group.

Jon Oliver has found the perfect balance. I think he's brilliant. I really really enjoy his show!

Exactly. It works in both directions, too. If you're an American and making fun of Brits in the UK, you'd better be f**king funny.

I think Oliver genuinely loves it here but thinks it could be better, so is able to pull apart various institutions (such as Daylight Savings Time, or the NCAA) and slap them about a bit and ask them why they're not doing a better job. Oliver's show has just gotten better every week.

I feel so abandoned by Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart..........(don't make any rational comments, please; I'm happy being irrational about this).

I do miss Colbert. Part of me feels like Stewart has not been 100% for a few years. Occasionally he's awesome, but mostly "just fine".

I've noticed that @midnight seems to be getting a little more political lately, as if to compensate for the more issue-centric comedy in The Nightly Show.

A 50% Jon Stewart would still be the best thing on TV.

I've only felt this since he returned from filming his movie. I had the distinct feeling he'd rather be doing something else, and the loss one after one of his really star "reporters" added to it.

Yet I agree that even a 50% Jon Stewart was good enough for me.

Tonight's the last night LOL. Too bad it won't be live so Jon can comment of the farce we are calling the FoxNews Republican debate. Lot's of talk of Debate bingo so here is a DailyShow bingo card

Thanks, LL! I hope I can read mine through the flowing tears.

OMG! Where will we go? What will we do? Who will make us laugh? (at least until Stephen's show starts...)

But who will ever make us laugh, AND cry? oh oh gulp tongue laugh

Trevor Noah starts on September 28. Wonder what they're going to put in there until it opens?

Where oh where will I get my fake (real) news from????? That leaves only Jon Oliver once a week to call the jerks out (like "real" news should be doing). I really doubt Colbert will be anywhere near controversial on The Late Show -- remember, it's CBS (which cancelled The Smothers Brothers for being outspoken -- and has never really changed its stripes in that regard).
