Cornbread

Their catfish is crazy good. I'd order it on an old PC in the rain.

Took out from Cornbread tonight.  It was worthy.  Will give it another shot.  Nice people.  It is a fast foody kind of space but pleasant.

Just had lunch.  Excellent Catfish and Fried Chicken.  Mac and Cheese is worthy as is cornbread dressing.  Cornbread is as sweet as The Sweet Tea.  I wished for a piece of the cornbread they use to make the dressing.

Will return. Nice Vibe, very friendly staff and the owner came over to chat.

Tried it for the first time tonight and can vouch for the catfish, the friendly vibe and the sweetness of the cornbread, which my wife likened to cake. Think of it as your dessert.

I ordered online for pickup. If you’re a Cornbread first-timer doing the same thing, a heads-up: The website’s photos of the sides bear little resemblance to the actual food. Which can be a comfort — rather than the gussied-up collards, beans, cabbage, mac-n-cheese and brown rice you see pictured, you get the flavorful, familiar old friends. (Well, brown rice and I are only passing acquaintances, but I can respect its straightforwardness, and this is a plain serving.) The green beans, which have been called canned and tasteless here, are the green beans I enjoyed at Church’s, suppers at Southern relatives and pretty much every down-home restaurant I’ve had them.

The turkey wings and ribs were tasty, but they aren’t what’ll bring us back. That catfish will. Cooked to order and surviving the 15 minutes from takeout to table in fine shape. Next time, it’ll be two Large Combos with catfish, collards and mac-n-cheese, and cornbread for dessert. (And maybe, Ron, we’ll try the dressing.) I could get used to that.
