Maybe Comcast isn't to blame, but this all happened because I had looked into its offer to upgrade to a faster internet! question

It is not at all clear that you're getting the trojan horse as a result of a legitimate offer. Don't even bother blaming yourself or comcast for that. These things flow wildly around the internet. Your vulnerability to them does depend somewhat on your savvy and skepticism, unfortunately, but you're not in terrible shape now. Before you eradicate it, don't click on it whenever it appears. And do eradicate it one way or another. It's a good thing you're using an Apple and not a Windows system. Apples are not invulnerable, as you can see, but they are measurably less vulnerable. If you had been using Windows for all this time, this would not be the first incident, by far.

I am still coping with the pop up xfinity activation screen, but I no longer think it is a virus. It is Comcast.

It seems to override my Netgear connection every chance it gets. I reset my internet connection under utilities, and I am OK for awhile. I believe Comcast is putting pressure on me to switch to the Xfinity higher speed connection. Xfinity is in my life because months ago I answered its multiple pleas to sign up and then I quickly rejected the idea. Comcast doesn't accept rejection!

I may be right, or I may be paranoid.

Is this on your ipad or your computer?

IPad, laptop and iPhone!

Check your network settings. On the Mac, it's under System Preferences. On the i-devices, it's under Settings. See if a comcast or xfinity network is on your list of wireless networks. If it is, remove it, as that might be the cause of the problem. Just a guess, though.

sorry, mtierney, I have been traveling a lot and have not checked back in here. There is an internal help chat board- I will paste this conversation in there and see if they have any suggestions. Most of them are on Eastern time, so I imagine we won't have any input until after 9AM.

@mtierney,

I have sent this thread to the support team and they are re-provisioning you to hopefully stop this activity.

Please unplug your Netgear router, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in.

Can you please post after you've done that and let me know if you're still having the issue?

You might also want to clear your browser cache and cookies as well, just to be safe.

Easy for you to say tongue rolleye

I tried Tom's suggestion yesterday and thought it a brilliant solution since I had had no override of my Netgear by the Xfinity activation screen at all after doing so.

I truly view xfinity as actively attacking my Netgear choice.

I was about to offer my thanks today when the maddening Xfinity screen appeared as I opened my email this morning!

Have you tried unplugging your router, and plugging it back in, since I suggested it at 9:51 AM?

The support team reprovisioned your account at that point.

I am sorry I missed that window of opportunity,  marcsiry, but since that screen hasn't popped up since yesterday morning. I don't want to upset the "Apple" cart. Perhaps what you had the folks at Xfinity do worked! grin

I chose to write in italics since it feels quieter to me and I do not want to awaken Godzilla aka Xfinity.

Well, please let me know if you do see it again...operators are standing by.

IT HAPPENED TWICE TODAY!  Both times on Twitter...different time of day...same link  grrr

I took the steps to have xfinity removed as a choice substitute for Netgear two, but it still is on the list and seems re "activated" grrr today, popping up earlier trying to open MOL. Why is it still listed? What does that blue symbol to the right of the lock symbol mean?

I'll post the question in the chat room tomorrow- perhaps someone will be working Sunday and see it.

There's nothing wrong in that picture. It is saying that there is a comcast hotspot near you, but there is no indication that your ipad would connect to it. To be safe, press the little i-in-a-circle icon next to that network, and if "forget this network" is available, press that to tell the ipad to forget the network. Once you do that, it will still be in the list, but the ipad will not connect to it any more.

tried that Tom, got this screen

Good. You did the right thing. Now your iPad won't join those networks, and we can eliminate that as a cause of your problem.

I am so beyond annoyed with Xfinity.

Did the-never-show-this-network-again maneuver and the Xfinity activation screen took over again today while I was attempting to open a link on Twitter! gulp

For some reason, I noticed I often have to reselect my Netgear internet choice when entering or after exiting Twitter and FB. IS THIS NORMAL?

Before I can do so, however, that frigging Xfinity jumps in! What is hysterical to me is the fact that I do not have the equipment required for activating!! That box was returned months ago.

today, yet another invasion by the Godzilla living in my devices, ready to leap and grab my internet connection!! grrr

There is no humor in me left.

I tried to open an icon on my home page for a site I frequently select. Bingo, the Xfinity activation screen asks for me to CONTINUE! I don't have the equipment and it was never installed in the first place!

I am able - so far - to open othe sites.

This has become intolerable at this point. It grabs email, Twitter links, or whatever it feels like gobbling up!

I don't understand how this happens. I would help if I could.

mtierney, I'll ask the support channel again when they open up this morning. Sorry you're continuing to have issues.

@marcsiry, do you think comcast causes this or is it a trojan horse?

It took me 20 minutes to kill Godzilla off and keep my Netgear connection from being overwhelmed. Multiple tries, multiple Xfinity bullying!

I have "forgotten" this network (Xfinity) over and over but it seems Netgear cannot standup to the beast of activation,  aka Godzilla! grrr

Xfinity invades email, Twitter, MOL, etc randomly.

I am not paranoid, but this getting personal! I guess the folks in the chat room threw up their hands, Marcsiry?  Also the "support channel"?

I think you deserve a technician visit.

Sorry, mtierney, I was in transit yesterday all day on a plane with no wifi. I am checking now.

Got knocked off Netgear 5 times in the last 30 mins.! Twitter, email, and 3 other sites. Odd, I am able to make this post!

Why can't Xfinity be blocked, or better yet, removed? A simple question.

Since I have the Triple package and spend about $250 a month, it will be complicated to dump the service, but paying for abuse is another definition for insanity! question

How do you print out a thread?

today's cat and mouse game with the Xfinity activation screen has it "living" only under one homepage icon that I have noticed thus far! This progress may or may not be because of the action I took yesterday. I unplugged everything and signed into Netgear again.

But, if I live long enough, I may just see the Calvary  coming!

I can't speak for anyone else, but your descriptions of what you are experiencing are utterly confounding me.
