Folks who have done the Brooklyn Half...talk to me about logistics. Did you drive in? If so, where did you park?

following, since I'm also running the BK half!

Awesome! You're running! I'm running too. grin

I always drive in and park in Fort Greene, near the Nevins St Station.  I take the 2/3 to Eastern Parkway/Brooklyn Museum. That's closet to the start.  I've run Brooklyn three times and haven't had any parking issues (knock-on-wood!).  I've found a spot on the street.

After the race I take the Q train back to Dekalb in Fort Greene (it's very close to the Nevins station).  It's a local train and takes about 25-30 minutes.

Hope this helps!

FYI: make sure to leave enough time.

Thank you SO much!!! This is incredibly helpful! What time do you leave?

Early. Without traffic it takes about 30-40 minutes to get to that area.  The subway ride from Nevins to Eastern Parkway is short (only a few stops).

If you leave at 5:15am, then you'll park around 6am.  Subway will take 15-20 (waiting and ride).  Arrive around 6:20-ish.  So, maybe leave at 5am to be safe?  I'll continue to think about this too....

Thanks, all good thoughts. We're thinking we will try to avoid bag check. I can only imagine I'd be Wave 2 given my pace, but I don't think I've gotten that info yet.

IMO, it's always better to avoid bag check.

How's training going for you? It's a super fun race! Some hills (especially around mile 3-4), but overall it's not too bad.

Okay, that's good to know!! Training's going pretty well this time. I have my last biggie this weekend (running 12), a few more long weekday runs and then taper city cheese

I did the Cherry Blossom 10-miler in early April for my 3rd time, and that felt pretty good. So I'm cautiously feeling good about this one!! Fingers crossed for great weather.

How about you?? You had an injury issue, right?

Enjoy!   Brooklyn is on my list for next year.   I just ran the More/Shape Women's Half 2 weeks ago, and then the NJ Half this past weekend (which was MISERABLE given the weather!)

Awesome. It sounds like you're in great shape!

No injury. My composing work schedule was insanely nuts and my running suffered.  I haven't run more than 10 miles in a while.  I'm running 11-12 this weekend, so we'll see! No PRs for me. I'm just looking to have a fun time and finish. It's amazing how quickly the body loses fitness. Actually kinda scary.

Oh, why was I thinking you had a foot thing? Glad to know all is okay!!

I've been drinking the kool-aid about Heart Rate training. Going to give that a try over the summer!

Haha. Actually, you're correct - I had a weird foot thing for a few days. But it was shoe related.  I got new kicks and all was good.

Heart Rate training - I've always wanted to do that as well. I have the watch/monitor, but I usually forget. Let us know how it goes!

I will! It will be a big adjustment. I don't have a HR monitor yet, but last night I did a 45-minute run at perceived REALLY easy effort. It was a big adjustment for sure!! One of the things the HR Training Plan says is to prepare for feeling a little crappy about yourself at first, basically oh oh  You will not be getting in the miles that you're used to, but as you really build your fitness base the miles you can run at the same heart rate/effort level will increase. It's a totally different philosophy but really interesting, and frankly kind of a nice approach as opposed to the usual "beat yourself up as much as possible for 12- 15 weeks."

That's really really cool!

"beat yourself up as much as possible for 12- 15 weeks." - hahaha. That's my approach. (or 18-20 for marathons!)

Good luck Brooklyn runners!!

I hope everyone had a great race in Brooklyn today!!!

@composerjohn thank you SO much for the tips on parking. Your suggestion was perfect! We found a garage right near the Nevins Street stop that had a cheap coupon. No stress at all and we got there in plenty of time!

Awesome! Glad the parking/subway worked out.  How'd the race go for you?

Yes! Overcast, mid-upper 50s, and no wind. It was super fun!

It went GREAT!!! Thanks for asking! I beat my goal time and even my secret goal time. Couldn't have asked for better weather so that definitely helped! I hope your race went well also.
