Conservatives got where they are today by going for the ideal. They are getting tax reduction for the rich. Deregulation, judicial control and possible reduction of the social programs and control of the government.
Meanwhile, libs went for middle of the road.
Now, it seems conservatives have over-extended. They will lose but it will take decades to reverse what damage can be reversed. Going for the ideal, will expedite the corrections of conservative abuses.

I'm going to say that your diagnosis is incorrect.
Conservatives got their tax reduction, judicial control, reduction in social programs, etc. by uniting behind the candidate who won the nomination. A lot of them didn't like him, many didn't even consider him a fellow conservative. But he was their best shot at moving towards what they wanted.
"Libs" didn't stay organized. A lot of idiots harangued us that their "principles" kept them from supporting the only alternative to the candidate that the conservatives united behind. Dumb idea, but the severe damage has been done.
One can only hope the lesson has been learned - after whatever primary fight is over, don't leave the arena because your "perfect" candidate didn't get picked.

Progressives are not going to win. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the current flavor of the month, but I hope she is getting properly schooled on the intricacies of implementing policy or else she is going to get ground into small fragments.

DB and Author seem to have traded positions. I am slightly dizzy.
In any event I have a new favorite. Sherrod Brown gave a great interview on MTP today.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I don't know how many times I've suggested him for the past 2 years! I wrote about it just now on your thread 2020. He's right out of an old Frank Capra movie. Great on the Senate floor.

here's a very likely starting point for Trump in the Electoral College, given this year's election results.

All it will take is one or two states on that map flipping to red. It's way too close to call at this point.

If you want the win you go for Biden. If you want the ideal you go for Bernie.

PA, Wisconsin and Michigan went for Trump by a very small margin. Minnesota should also be in the Blue Category. And I would not count out Florida yet.
