Woodpecker damage
Sapsuckers will drill holes in trees to collect the sap and the bugs that are attracted to the sap. In February one really attacked our cedar tree. Arborist said there is no treatment that will repel them, and that we are lucky it happened when it was cold outside instead of warm. We bought bird reflector strips which seemed to help deter the bird.

If a woodpecker is putting numerous holes in a tree does that mean there are bugs in the tree, or are they just making holes on speculation?
Interestingly enough, looking at the real estate photos the library has online, the current tree is the THIRD on in the same spot in the past 60 years. The current tree is pretty young, but full of holes.
