Women: post-menopausal ovarian cyst?

In a massive shock to both me and my family doc, since my last scans for OvCa three months ago, I’ve apparently developed a 3cm dermoid cyst on my right ovary. Absolutely no symptoms apart from sudden and constant, almost crippling pain on late Thursday afternoon, taking me to Emergency 13 hours later.

Took them 8 hours to figure out what was going on - because, of course, I was seen by gastric surgeons (‘we don’t do lady parts, we’ll have to refer you’).

(They also picked up a tiny picket of diverticulitis inflamed in sympathy, with absolutely no other symptoms at all, right next to the site of the cyst; and very early IBD probably Crohns at the end of my colon - also no symptoms, and also none of these evident in my earlier scans)

Anyone else had medium to large cysts almost two years post-menopause? Complicated cysts? Or did your PCOS or endo persist? Esp asymptomatically? It just seems so weird. As the 6 docs said, I’m really healthy, apart from this and the chronic migraines...

yes—my gyn took it very seriously and sent me to the gyno cancer specialist—he was not fazed/concerned at all but followed up with MRI and subsequent ultrasounds. It eventually resolved on its own. I don’t think it’s that unusual esp that close to menopause.  I think hormone levels are still adjusting...I wonder why I still get occasional acne breakouts, for ex. I think the main thing is to follow it closely with your docs.

Thanks!

My main worry is that we're about to have the equivalent of the Olympics here (the Commonwealth Games) and so the hosputal's Gynae clinic will get putting new referrals in a couple of weeks. I currently have no idea what category they'll assess me as, so my wait might be 30 days or well over a year (in which case, I could ask to see my own gynae instead). Family doc has an ultrasound planned for Wed, so I'll see what shows on that.

I'm back to normal diet, normal everything except for the super gigantic bruise on my arm...!

very annoyed to say the least: obviously the hospital gastric docs were over my allergies and couldn’t be bothered working out what to do re antibiotics.

I was on 2 doses of oxycodone, which slowed thinking and dulled my hearing, and kept insisting I can5 have anything in the penicillin family at all, definitely no flagyl in any form, nothing ‘-mycin’ etc. What does the prescribing doc do? Write up a fancy sounding new generic form of flagyl. Which of course I don’t recognise and have been taking since Friday, reacting to for the last 2 days but thinking it’s just environmental stuff even though the symptoms are getting worse.

Why the f* don’t people listen????????!!!!!!!!

(My good pharmacist thinks I should be ok without special care. Last time I needed an ambulance)

why do you need medication ( antibiotics) for a cyst?

The antibiotics are for the diverticulitis pocket. In a wonderful twist of fate, I’m also reacting to the second a/b after only two doses, which was also contraindicated because of other allergies. On medical advice, given the strength of the reaction, I’m sleeping with both my phone and epipens next to my pillow as D is away and it’s 2 am. (I am a huge fan of 13-HEALTH and the Poisons Centre call lines)
