Winter Olympics - what events are you watching?

I've really gotten into biathlon over the years, it's big in Germany.  So, we're recording all of those.

Slopestyle snowboard was really good, looks like the men's finals will be on primetime tonight.

Anything downhill is fun to watch.

I enjoy it all.

Catching up with Queer Eye

Amazing finish for New Zealand!

(Max - I didn't realize Queer Eye was at the Olympics)

enjoyed the womens slope.

Looking forward to the mens

Ski jumping up next- who doesn’t like ski jumping!?

The Xi family body doubles competition.

Got distracted by Kelly Slater, surfing. (Those gorgeous waves!!! Wow!!)  question snake question

It’s strange, I haven’t really caught the Olympic bug this time - I’m enjoying the snippets I glimpse, but I’m not overly excited. I think all the political bickering beforehand poisoned it for me this year.
I do feel sorry for that US-born Chinese skater who kept falling: she seemed such a nervous wreck afterwards.

No fair, Jamie changed the thread title!

I have been trying to watch, but between the Chinese restrictions on athletes, the IOC incompetence and bad timing, I just can't get interested.  Then there is this:https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/olympics/beijing/2022/02/07/beijing-athletes-rip-covid-quarantine-hotels-food/6687367001/

The backdrop for the ski jumping was a bit daunting: https://www.sbnation.com/2022/2/7/22922448/winter-olympics-beijing-big-air-cooling-towers-steel-mill-photos

Jimmy Kimmel mentioned - they're abandoned cooling towers from an old coal powered steel mill - seems funny that we're holding a winter olympic event in front of the reason we don't have winter anymore.

yes, I should have been more specific with the title.  You can talk about queer eye on the 'series' thread.  I'm not crazy about the current "Texas" season myself.  It's ok.

The big air freestyle event was something to see coming down to the final jump for the last three competitors.

I didn't think I would get into curling this time around, but I did get hooked into the mixed competition.  Recording the final - I think it's on at 2 today.

And for those who are interested in trying out curling: https://njcurling.org/

That looks like a still shot from the Olympic Hunger Games.

Men's half pipe was pretty good - so glad Ayumu Hirano pulled it out with his 3rd run - his second run score was a bit off.

I hate that they don't let you embed the video - here's the 2nd run.

The judges are a bit lucky Ayumu Hirano had a great final run.  They don't really have to explain why they scored him as they did on his 2nd run.

Here's a great overview of the top runs:

It's really incredible that Ayumu was able to replicate and improve the previous run.

Snow cross is one of my favorite events.  And the mixed snow cross with Jacobellis and Baumgarten certainly did have a fairy tale finish.
