Who will fill Sheena's seat if she wins VP?

Have there been any promises made to anybody about filling the trustee seat Sheena will vacate if she wins VP?  I forget how it works.  Does the VP fill the vacancy?  Does the BOT have to vote on it?  Could Torpey come back as an appointed trustee?  Would he even want it if offered it?  Shouldn't both VP candidates say who they would appoint if they win, if it is a VP appointment?

According to the Village Charter:

2.4 (a) A vacancy in the office of the Village President or Trustee occurring during a term shall be filled by the Board of Trustees, by the affirmative vote of at least four Trustees, for the remainder of the unexpired term.

According to State Statute:

40A:16-4 The vacancy shall be filled for  its unexpired term at the next general or regular municipal election, whichever  occurs first, to be held not less than 60 days after the occurrence of the  vacancy.  The governing body may fill the vacancy temporarily by appointment .

So, It is my understanding that if Sheena wins, her Trustee seat becomes vacant and the BOT could appoint someone to the seat until November 2015, when there would be a special election to fill the seat until May 2017.  If Emily wins, this is moot, since there will be no vacancy.

Since Alex is moving to Africa, that would make it tricky for him to attend BOT meetings.

Ha! This is kind of crazy. I have full confidence in Sheena's integrity that she will be a part of an appointment that is fair and honest, were she to win VP. I believe she's already stated publicly that the BOT would seek interested parties and set a solid process to the appointment... An appointment which would only last five months until the seat can be run for and voted on in the next election.

Sentences on MOL that start with "I heard..." sometimes seem like an attempt at casting aspersions and then blaming it on someone else's rumor spreading.

Really .... come on people??

i really think scott was joking...

Who are your sources Scott?  I would look into getting better reliable sources.

Time will tell, I suppose.

I was told today that he is one of multiple people that the slate has promised the seat to. And by reliable sources, multiple sources

Let's hope your story doesn't change again.  Time will tell, I suppose. grin

Let me know when a good journalist shows up Scott ;-)

Scott honestly do you really believe that rumor?

He is one of the multiple I was told was promised the seat. They are cutting deals with anyone who will listen and give them a vote. Its somewhat sad if you think about it.

What is this -  like forming a coalition in Israel where Bibi promises a ministerial position to someone so that they will join his coalition?   Get real.

I heard that they were going to give it to jayjay but can't since he no longer lives in South Orange.

Scott,

When I think about it - what I find sad is when people run to Maplewood Online to start rumors that are not based in any reality.  I specifically explained to you a couple months ago the process for filling a vacancy if one should occur because you asked and I answered.  Nothing has changed since then.

The reason I know for certain this is a rumor is because I know that no one has been "promised" anything.  If you'd like to post the names of all the people you were told were made a promise in exchange for a vote(s), we'll contact each and every one of them and see what they have say.

As you can see, I take accusations regarding my integrity very seriously.

scott - Think about it for a minute. You heard that several people had been promised that they would be named trustee to fill Sheena's spot if Sheena is elected VP if they gave them a vote.  Now, how is their single vote going to make any difference in the election (unless it's a close election like the last VP election?)  Compound it wit the fact that you've been told that several people have been promised the one vacancy. Does this really make sense to you?

Wait! It's not me???? :crying emoticon:

I am not saying anything other than what I have been told, and the people that have told me this have been 100% accurate with other things they told me was going to happen in the past.

Scott, if someone used this type of rationale and excuse to spread rumors maligning you or your spouse, would you really have no problem with it?

scott - This is what you posted:

OK - that was poor writing on my part.

Was the  "It's somewhat sad if you think about it" poor writing since it refers to the "they are cutting deals with anyone who will listen and give them a vote?"

So let me get this straight.

My integrity gets called into question on a public message board (and I am the head of this slate so I take full responsibility) based on the following scenario:

1)  "Someone" knows Alex Torpey was promised to fill a potential vacant seat for five months after stepping down as Village President, which he would telecommute to since he is leaving the country this summer.

2)  But it's not just Alex - it's "multiple people" - in exchange for a) votes/support and then changed to b) "I don't know what was offered"

3)  When asked to provide who the source of these statements were, the response was "a good journalist doesn't reveal their sources"

4)  When asked to post the names of the "multiple" people who were made promises so we could address each and everyone of them, we get crickets.

I'm going to get back to work now because I have an election in 10 days which I'm very excited about and I'll close by saying that   the only promise I'm prepared to make is that I will serve this community to the absolute best of my ability for the next four years if given the opportunity.  Goodnight everyone and I hope to see you at River Day tomorrow!

I hear a rumor Scott was getting the seat unless he started rumors online.

Just for the sake of clarity, MFABSO is NOT jonesing for a seat at the table.  We are, however, not too proud to beg for a better seat on Sloan.  With cushions.  Preferably heated.

As you're the one with the reliable mulitiple sources, why come here to ask about what you already know?
