Which restaurants are still open (SOMA only please)

New Great Wall in South Orange is open for Chinese takeout. I walked past in my way to Sonny's this morning. I think they had been closed for a while.

Here is their Grubhub link.

Where can you get some decent sushi in or near SOMA?

Ariyoshi is our go-to place for sushi and they are open. But it would help if we knew which places you've already tried and deemed indecent.

Got take out from Boccone last night, which was their last night at their South Orange location.

They are moving to what was Tillie's on Millburn Ave in Short Hills.

We have done Tomo on Rt 10 In East Hanover. It’s our usual go to sushi/sashimi/udon place. I believe their hours are limited but it’s on their website. Each time we’ve ordered I called a day in advance because it was a fairly large order and I knew the day of might be busy. I picked up at 5pm so I beat the dinner crowds and the drive was quick.
if you’re more of a roll person Pandang is opening on May 15 and we’ve also enjoyed their sushi.

Last night, Mother’s Day, we hadn’t planned ahead but ordered online from Mozzarella in SO. Aside from regular and GF pizza we got a wonderful mussel dish and a simple salad. Order was ready within 25 min and they had a good pickup system in place.

Saturday night we also had a very good experience picking up from MitiMiti after ordering online. Everything was very clearly marked and on a table inside. Their food is delicious.

According to a FB post yesterday, Bistro d'Azur "d'Go" is now open 7 days a week. Ordered  Mother's Day - delicious.  Online ordered a few days ahead, chose a time for pick up & waiter came out to car & we waited about 15 -20 minutes and dropped it in our trunk (contactless, they seem VERY picky about distancing, gloves an masks) food was hot when I got it home.  Big menu, my teen son inhaled the lobster crepe,  and the paella casserole dinner for 4 was huge hit, as was the chocolate cake.  We went back last week (ordered that morning) to try the chicken also excellent - now we plan on being regulars. Boy did they improve the look of that SO block! bistrodazur.com

Time to rewatch The Philadelphia Story (again)

I had Village Trattoria the other day - online ordering is easy and so is pick up.  What I didn't notice right away was the outside tables had numbers on the 1-3, so I guess you stand in line behind each table which are safely distanced apart.

I went to True Salvage cafe on Sunday and the food was great.  You can tell Chef Signe puts her heart into her meals.  The ordering and pick up processes were super easy.  I highly recommend them and will definitely be going back.

Are both locations open?  I drove by the Maplewood location this past weekend and it didn't look open.

 Thanks for the info.

Hunan Spring just opened up this week.

I second the sentiment about True Salvage above.  Signe can cook anything for me.  Breakfast, lunch, dinner, or sweets!

Is there an online menu for True Salvage? I'm having trouble finding their website.

What and where is True Salvage?

It's in the group of stores on Elmwood - by Boyden.

A restaurant that only posts their menu on Facebook is missing out on some clientele.

I know that building well. I Didn't know the name. It used to be Nat's Deli, next to Dry Cleaner

Am I completely out of touch (probable) - is it prohibitively difficult / expensive to create and maintain a website?

When I search online for a restaurant I want a website that clearly shows its menu, location, and hours of operation.

I don't need fancy photos or transition effects.  Just give me useful info that is current - have your hours changed due to Covid?  Post that!

There's a "new" pizza place on Valley - we still haven't tried it - in large part because there is no online menu and my husband likes to see all of his options.

Went to Bay Leaf in South Orange yesterday for Indian.  Very good.  They have a table set up at the entry way, sanitized and bring your food to you.  They were quick and efficient.

They also deliver, and their food is excellent!

Articles are now being published about how restaurants will operate when allowed to open. The expected stuff, sanitizers, masks for servers, wipe the tables are listed. New responses will include single serve packets of salt, ketchup, napkins and so forth. Expect no permanent "furniture" on the table when you sit down. I guess place mats, flatware and napkin will be there to greet you.

Expect paper menus instead of the large picture book menus you saw in March. Maybe they will come back in a year or so but it would be difficult to sanitize every page.

There will be reservation setups for most restaurants. Without that, people would be lined up in lobbies or on streets standing, waiting for a duration. Not many of us would put up with that.

So..... what was not mentioned that you believe should be done before you consider sitting at your favorite window seat?

This would more likely work if the solid base were table height or below.

Either way, so much for the etiquette of serving and clearing on the left. Looks like it’s a lot of reaching over the diner who’s closest to the entry.

A helpful dining guide for Springfield Avenue.

It seems like we can almost get everything locally for takeout.- it's been open for a bit @ridski - I saw Ani Ramen is open.  Did they implement their new concept?

Arturo's Zucca pie is on the menu.  Also had another great special pie with Peas and Prosciutto!  Turnaround time was pretty quick around lunchtime.
