+1 for both Old Sturbridge Village (or Sturbridge) and Mystic, CT aquarium/seaport.! But there are many more things to do. What interests do you and your family have? How old are the kids? History, amusement parks, museums, food, roadside attractions?
Another +1 for Mystic attractions and Old Sturbridge Village. But, like Nan, I think it would help to know more about the kids' ages and interests.
Not a must-see, but a good place to stop to break up the drive if you want to avoid 95 is Woodstock, Vermont or somewhere nearby.
In Sturbridge, à great restaurant is Sturbridge Seafood!
Go off I 90 to 20 north to Lenox and Stockbridge. See Naumkeag in Stockbridge or a concert at Tanglewood in Lenox. Or catch a dance concert at Jacobs Pillow in Becket,if they're still in season.

We are driving up to Portland in a couple of weeks with the kids and we want to break the drive up into two days while avoiding the Boston traffic jam. Is there anything interesting (or even must see) halfway between here and there.
