What tablet should I get?

Thinking of getting a tablet. Don't want an ipad. Any suggestions? Looking for larger than 7 inch screen. Already havd a kindle fire that size.

I thought I had found what I was looking for when I bought a Dell convertible, (has a keyboard that folds behind the screen) that you can use as a tablet, but it turned out to be the worst computer I ever bought. It's slow and freezes up all the time. Horrid POS.

Dell  3000 series - stay away.

I can go for Android or Windows.  pretty much just want it for web browsing and ebook reading.

I have a two-year-old Nexus 7 tablet--they come in larger sizes, too--that I've been very pleased with. I use it for web browsing, ebook reading, etc. Very bright and clear screen. Haven't had any problems.

yes, I was looking at the Nexus. I've got a Samsung phone which I like.

i use a Samsung tablet which has taken a beating for two years and still works well.

wait. the Nexus is Google right? Not Samsung?

many companies use Android.  My Samsung runs on Android.

I have the Samsung for a couple of years.  It's not the Tab.  It's the S, I think.  Pretty great.  Cheaper than the iPad.  If you have an iPhone, you may want to consider the iPad.  It's easier to deal with 1 app store. I have an android phone, so this works out well for me.

I am apple free at the moment and would prefer to stay that way.

Yes, that is the Google tablet, with HTC HW for the 2015 year. 9 inches, 16GB

I owned the 2013 8GB WiFi version which was running ASUS HW. It also came in a 16GB version but space wasn't a need for me, as I only use it for browsing the web, and reading weekly magazines, and books. Both Nexus versions have very high pixel density.

I now have the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4-Inch Tablet 16 inch. Great AMOLED screen. An you run the Google Now Launcher which emulates the look and feel of true Android phone\tablet and removes any Samsung bloatware.

That's correct. (My spouse has a Samsung Chromebook, and I have a Samsung phone, and we're pleased with both of those, too.)

ok. search over. I got the Samsung Galaxy Tab E 9.6 inch. On sale at Best Buy for 199. about to open the box now.

I am very impressed with this thing so far, and I was blown away (though I guess I shouldn't have been) that it offered to set itself up with all of the apps on my phone.

The tablet is big enough for Teamviewer to be useful too, which is a big plus. And I managed to get Flash player quickly working, even though it's technically not supported on Android anymore.

It's very peppy too.

I believe Nova Launcher is running specials.  I think its a buck for the Nova Launcher.  I like this much better than the stock Samsung environment.

I got a Black Friday deal on an Amazon Fire ... $34.99. Ads show-up on the front page when I log-in, but who cares ... My first tablet.

I like it.

Why?

I am apple free at the moment and would prefer to stay that way.

mostly because I find apple too proprietary. The little experience I've had with iStuff was just too annoying for me. I like a lot of control over my computer type devices, and Apple devices seem to fight that.

meanwhile I used my new tablet for a good portion of the day today while on jury duty. very impressed with this thing. it blows my dell laptop away.

Drummerboy,

Grass is always greener... Almost 2 yrs ago I started in the opposite direction; gave up windows gear and moved to Apple iPad and more recently Mac mini.   I received an iPhone 4 as a gift.  Maybe some day I'll delve into that  too.

That mini purchase, 2-3 weeks ago, is why I asked.  No problems w/ Apple gear just newbie nerves.

GOOD LUCK  with your new toy.

I've had the 2102 Nexus (wifi version) and the 2013 LTE version with Verizon. The first lollipop update bricked the 2012 Nexus, and as a result, I have not updated the 2013. Should I upgrade the Nexus, I have been looking at the recent Samsung Galaxy S2, which comes in 2 sizes, and the more recently released Google Pixel C. There are other tablets out there, but these are the ones most attractive to me, based in the reviews I have read.
