What are those beautiful pink flowering shrubs?

I don't have a photo, but they're everywhere, and the color is just amazing. Does anyone know what these bright pink flowering bushes/shrubs are that seem to be all over town? And are they perennial? TIA.

Azaleas?

I don't think so, those seem larger than the ones I've been seeing. Close though

I've noticed that the cherry trees are in bloom with their pink blossoms all over town, and look amazing (but they are usually larger than shrubs - so I assume they are not what you are referring to).

My lilacs are also in bloom. Very sweet scent - but more purple and white than pink, so probably not the bushes/shrub you are referring to either.

Hope you get your answer!

That's azalea.

thanks! if that's the case, mystery solved oh oh  ill post the real ones tomorrow just to be sure.

So if i plant those, will the come back every year?

They should. They need some TLC but not too much. They are fabulous this year... some years not so much.

If they're anything like mine they'll die a slow death!

The healthy ones at least do seem to bloom every spring. The blooms do only last a few weeks though. After that you have a green bush.

@zeus2112 - I think you could pick up some nice azaleas at the Maplewood Garden Club plant Sale which starts next Thursday (continues on Friday and Saturday AM) at noon and is held at the pool on Boyden.

Those green bushes, while nothing exotic, do stay green all winter---a bonus IMO.

I love spring in this area with so many different bushes and trees that bloom.  My absolute favorites are the azaleas and, coming soon, rhododendrums--plants that were rare in the colder climates where grew up and attended college.
