Webcam questions

As I said elsewhere our family wants to do a Zoom virtual pizza party.  My mac mini doesn’t have a webcam or microphone.  Does(Do) webcams usually include a mic?   Would adding a webcam solve both deficits?

Webcams may include a mic, depending on the model.

Your big problem is finding one right now. The whole country has moved to videoconferencing and the stores are sold out of a lot of models.

Do you have a smart phone with a forward facing camera?  You could download the zoom app and f you could prop the phone up stably that should work.

As for Zoom, assuming you only have a FREE account, it limits you to 3 participants and 40 minutes.

If you have more than three participants you are limited to 40 minutes with a free account.

Three or fewer and you can talk for a long time, as my daughter demonstrated with two of her good friends yesterday.

Thanks for your time and responses.

This is being put together by a well placed exec, who I’m sure knows what SHE s doing... as for technotwits, like me...not so much.  I have an ipad that I’ve used to make 3 video calls, via Facetime, several years ago.  This time I’d like to mirror to our dining room tv so it will be easier for us to follow rather than using such a small screen.

Hold the phone!!!  Someone has an old webcam w/ mic...I’ll get that; make a test call and th result will tell us everything we need to know.

Thanks once again for your time.

 Thanks, didn’t realize that.

 Here to help!

Posted on another thread that the experience was worth the time and effort to get done.   I ultimately got an adapter that hooked up iPad to tv.  First test was a you tube comedy vid,  that played rather well on big screen.  It took a bit of doing since I needed to change a few settings that I didn’t know about.

Hostess has an acct at zoom so there was no time limit.  15+ people in at least 6 places.  I assume diff platforms.  Some quality issues bc of age of tech.

Overall, we will probbly do again.

Glad it worked out.

And yeah, that webcam was probably not meant to be blown up to the size of a TV. You probably looked a little fuzzy.
