NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, a partnership with ESA (European Space Agency) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), will release its first full-color images and spectroscopic data on July 12, 2022
Here’s the link to track it.

This is awesome. Can’t wait.
Neither can we. Been keeping fingers crossed that the Webb would make it to this point. The damage done by the fine grain of some floating substance is unfortunate, but it could have been a lot worse. I know it cost billions of dollars, but I'll be content if they manage to get a few weeks worth of photos out of the instrument. If it lasts longer, it'll be a huge triumph on top of a huge triumph. So exciting.
On WNYC public radio today, in talking about the Webb telescope, an astronomer was noting that about 90% of the galaxies seen so far are disc-shaped ones like our Milky Way. No formal reason could be given for this, but here are other shaped galaxies. I also recall that Hubble showed Einstein that, unlike Einstein's theory that gravity would slow the universe's expansion, the universe was still expanding. We may be seeing light from the edge of the big bang. What amazing stuff.
