Washer repairmen other than George's/Norman's Pls

My 20-year old washer (Kenmore) is not draining the water after the wash cycle nor is it spinning.  I'd like to fix it if it's an easy repair.  Any recs for repairmen other than George's/Norman's?

Thanks.

sounds like the discharge pump failed.  Go to repairclinic.com for the part and an instructional video.

Every time I see a post looking for an appliance repair person, I always recommend Larry of Astre Appliance Tech. So far I've never heard anything but good reviews afterward. Larry has done repairs for me on and off for 25 years or more, including fridge, stove, washer, dryer and dishwasher.

908-272-7744 or 908-273-4166

Caveat - Larry covers the area around Union/Maplewood/Oranges/Millburn. I'm not sure how big his area is but I know that someone (farther north) once posted that they called Astre and got someone different who wasn't very good.

Thanks, sac.  I'll consider them.  Curious:  you wrote the exact same review - word for word - in a post a couple of years ago.  Found it in a search looking for repair companies.

American Appliance Services, John who is a lovely and honest guy, 973-539-7711.  Came promptly and quick repair.  Highly recommend.

thank you diana!  Will add him to my calls. Actually, I think I can fix it myself looking at fix it videos, but well see.  Lol

Yup!  I have it saved because I find myself making the same recommendation fairly frequently (and I'm lazy.)  But I think I changed 20 to 25 this time ... because time has passed and he's still my go to repair guy!

I’ll second sac’s reco.

Lol.  I ended up fixing the problem myself to save money.  It was the lid switch.  $9 part and several YouTube videos later and I have a working washer!  Thank you for all the recs.

Did you get the part from Repair Clinic?

steve:  I didn't want to wait that long so I used Amazon.  The videos on repair clinic were helpful though!

Just saw this thread or I might have been able to tell you to to check the switch.  Same thing happened to me about 3 months ago.  I had been smelling the smell of wet clothes when there was nothing in the machine.  Sometimes the clothes were soaking wet after they were supposed to be done.  I realized it was the spinner, so like any other lazy Maplewoodian I would just spin the spinner backwards a couple of times and it worked again, until it didn't.

That's when I googled the problem and I came up with the lid switch.

Sorry I didn't see till just now.

eric:  no problem!  Thx for your post.

The ‘lazy’ part (at least in my post) referred to my saving and copying the post rather than writing a new one each time. Nothing to do with Larry, other than the frequency with which I recommend him.

what is up with Norman- we used him several times in the past for our Sub-Zero, now I am having trouble reaching him. I called him, and missed his return call. Two calls to him thereafter and no call-backs.
