Warning: DO NOT update an iPad 2 to ios9

I should've done more research, as this is a pretty widespread problem with no single solution (and certainly nothing that's worked for me). Tried to update an iPad 2 (the second-generation iPad) to iOS9 and it completely bricked. Got all the way through a couple of "update successful" screens and even back to the home screen, but then it flicks right back to the black screen with the white apple & the "stuck" progress bar. Spent a few hours on the Apple community boards & other sites, trying a couple of different suggested fixes, to no avail....if I'd done that research first I would never have attempted the update. [Works just dandy on my iPhone 6, though.]

Updated my i-pad mini with no problems.

Should I bother updating my IPhone 6? What is the benefit?

@LL_ I updated my iPhone 6 just this afternoon. So far the new "news" app is pretty cool, and the cleaner typefaces are good. I had no trouble installing it.

No problems with my iPad 2 or iphone6

No problem with iPad 2 and iPhone 5

iPad 3 and iPhone 5s here, both had glitchy downloads requiring a complete reset from my computer backup.

It took far too long to do this. I suggest waiting a while just n case there is a revised backup coming to take care of problems like i had.

I've had no probs on my ipad2. Just some conditions I'm not happy about having to agree to. Been upgraded for days.

(Now I sound like a Borg)

I've never installed a ".0" upgrade. I'll wait like an hour for 9.1, thanks.

No problems with my 4+ year old iPad or my iPhone 6. Don't like that they seemed to change things just for the sake of change, but other than that, it's working fine...

No problem with OS9 and my iPad 2

I usually wait awhile for any bugs to get worked out. This time will be no different.

My iPad2 is already acting glitchy, so thanks for the warning. Glad it worked for some, but I like the thing and don't need it glitchier.

Just to add, I had no problems with the upgrade itself. iPad 2 has been acting weird since the upgrade, though. Major latency issues with typing and using Safari and stuff. I usually do wait for the x.1 update, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

I'd suggest waiting if you haven't upgraded already.

It seems telling that, although iOS 9 has been available for a week or so, my phone still hasn't put it "in my face" the way it usually does when there is a new version available for download. (i.e. I can go into settings and download it if I wish, but I'm not getting push notifications or seeing an update indicator for it on my phone display.)

Yes this, as above, plus FB is acting worse than before, among other things, sorry I upgraded yesterday morning. Should have waited until the bugs were corrected. iPad 2, also.

iOS 9 has been pretty aggressive with me, offering itself on various pieces of equipment, winking and giving me the "come hither" look. But I am resisting.

I always have to secretly chuckle when 'iThings' don't work super smooth and show the same problems usually only attributed to Microsoft products.

That said, getting a new OS or any big piece of software to update flawlessly on a huge variety of devices is always a daunting task for the developers and will usually have a certain percentage of failures. Waiting for the .1 patch is quite often good advice for anybody not dying to get the latest and greatest all the time.

As for @ridski Did you try to reset the iPad with iOS 9? Make a backup of your data and then basically go back to a clean install?

I'll probably give it a shot when I get home, earlster..

That really amuses me is that my iPhone insists it has the latest update, at ios7, v something. I'm not arguing with it even though I know better.

My iPad2 was purchased in 5/12 and actually is working better with iOS9. I was experiencing the latency before I upgraded. It was really interesting to type full paragraphs and see how well I typed them...Go figure...

Depending on the version of iphone, iOS7.x might be the latest available.

I'm running iOS 6.x on my iPhone 4S. iTunes is inviting me to upgrade to iOS 9. No, thanks.

I suspect the problem with my still-bricked iPad 2 was that I attempted to upgrade to iOS 9 from an earlier (not the most recent) operating system. Still can't get the damn thing to work.

I am having nothing but trouble with iOS 9, can I take it back to my previous OS, if so how? And will my apps be lost?

Try the Genius Bar at an Apple Store. They can tell you if the brickage is permanent.

My speak function now speaks at 1000 words/minute!

I just got a notice for a v.0.1 update.

I was able to update my iPad2 to ios9 without issue.

I am having a similar problem with my iPad mini. I don't know if it's 1 or 2. Is there anyway to restore the iPad to prior settings or even factory settings without hooking up to iTunes? I can't get it to hook up to iTunes now.

No problems on my iPhone5 though. I actually, love the new upgrade on the phone.
