WandaVision - Help me Wanda, is it a Vision?

Stick with it, All Y'all.  I've probably read too many articles already.....but there is.....(wait for it)...method to this Multiverse of Madness.  Hats off to MrIncredible, and all who are staying patient.  In the grand scheme of things, this is really only episode 3 we are talking about here.  I'll bet most of you have been way more patient with other crap that didn't pan out.  

On another tangent (though sort of related) - Did anyone hear about how they are bring back Prince Namor? Beats Aquaman hands down, if you ask me.

I stopped reading comics in the 70s.  Do they still occasionally do those cross-over DC vs. Marvel issues?

 YAY!   Westview, NJ - Isn't that on the other side of Westfield?  Somewhere off of Route 3?  That all came together really nicely, and I especially liked the Hendrix at the end.  Well done! 

You’ve all really whet my curiosity for this series. I’d gone off the superhero genre a bit (way too much bingeing pre- Christmas), I’m looking forward to tackling this on our rotation.

She got off at Exit 43 (no such exit on GSP) and that certainly looked like South NJ to me. We'll know if we seem someone wearing an Eagles jersey eating a pork roll, egg and cheese sandwich. 

Arguments could be made that SNJ is more prone to weirdness than NNJ, so perhaps it would be fitting that the show would happen there.

Now theoretically that could be exit 43 off 78 or 80 or some other highway. 

WHOA!!

Route "2" looked odd.  Apparently there was once a Route 2 but it became Route 130.

Was that 'WHOA!" for the current episode?  I'm going to combine a few comments, because you just can't read sarcasm good on this here computah.  It's clear that the writers of this particular series are having a grand old time building this all up.  They are intentionally messing with our heads, and that is the bigger difference between Marvel/DC in general.  You don't have to be a Mensa to see that, right?  

I'm not a smart guy, but until the current episodes this has all been a colossal tease, and they are continuing to do that.  They are threading a good story here, and I hope everyone is enjoying that.  It's also clear these guys are from the East Coast and specifically have roots in NJ/NY.  As opposed to the narrative that is very 'In Your Face', they have chosen a way more subtle way to tell this story.  From what I hear, they want to build this into Phase 3, and all upcoming movies and series.  So good show and I'll keep on watching.  

I have faith the writers will eventually make this interesting and hopefully make sense.. I have my theories but I'll save it for another time but will remind everyone that SW is a master at distorting reality 

I'm liking it.  I temper my optimism, though, based on my experience with other mysterious, high concept shows that in the early slow reveal phase seem highly intelligent and well thought out only to disappoint and seem improvised in the end (Lost, Westworld, Counterpart, and even the grandaddy of them all Twin Peaks).  It's hard to pull off.  And the failure of the conclusion doesn't mean the ride til the end isn't fun or worthy.

The "WHOA!" was for the big character reveal at the end of the most recent episode. If you are not familiar, it brings together two Marvel universes  That have until now been separate. 

Are we in a spoiler free zone? 

Darcy is one of my favorite characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And I am glad they brought in agent Woo as well. That being said, I hope they find more fun for those characters, because Kat Dennings and Randall Park are tremendously funny and talented performers.

 I agree, but you are opening up a can of worms to compare this show to any of the ones you mention.  As a fan only of the Lynch Twin Peaks, I will tell you that it lost it's luster the further he moved away from the project.  The reality of a show like that? It was high concept and niche from the start, and catered to a smaller audience than you think.  I'm hopeful that they can pull it off too, and have done a good job to this point in my opinion.

 Yeah, that one threw me for a loop.  Since I started this thread and it's kind of my party, I say we go for the spoilers at this point.  All those in favor say 'Aye' (or 'Argh!' or even 'Yee HAH').  

I friggin' LOVE Darcy, they are giving her better lines each episode.  She is almost like the 4th wall character here for sure.  Agent Woo too, actually.  Love that actor so much.  They should give him a costume and let him play super hero somewhere.  

She is funny and both are likable.  Glad there is levity on that side of the story and not just the sit-com side.  BTW, if there doing one sitcom parody for each decade, they will run out of decades on the soonish side.

 Three more decades and four more episodes.  Sounds right.  90s, aughts, teens, and then one episode to finish setting up the whole Phase Four of the MCU (my kids have strong opinions, due to the movies currently being made)

Okay, the actor who shows up at the end to play Pietro is the actor who played the character of Quicksilver (same character) in the X-Men franchise movies. I think the character appeared in the two separate universes the same year.

Now that Disney has acquired Fox entertainment, there's been speculation about how they might integrate the two movie universes. This is the first crossover I can remember. 

So will they be in separate parts of a Multiverse (of Madness)? Did Wanda reach into a different universe pull the other version of her dead brother into her Westview construct?

 Yes, I believe you are correct on all fronts.  I've read several articles on how they are going to tie this in with the upcoming Doctor Strange movie and even Spiderman 3, which has a different tittle.  That particular movie will directly tie into three different Spidermen, but probably not Miles Morales (though that would not surprise me).  I'm not up on current comics, as my Marvel days are all from the 70s through the early 90s, but I'm very up on the current 

I can't give you any information on Pietro, as I was absolutely blown away by that scene.  So now we have two dead characters that the incredibly powerful Wanda has somehow reanimated.  They have gone in a totally different direction with Vision and I kind of like it.  I need some of our comic geeks in residence to chime in here, as the movies and the comics are totally not in sync with the Vision I knew and read.  If he is in fact an android, then he can't ever really die.  The sketchy part is the Soul Stone, which was never part of his origin in the comics but plays an important role in the new franchise.  

Wanda walking out of the town to warn off SWORD?  Absolutely brilliant, if you ask me.  They move in an out of the universe she has created, but there are some not so subtle clues that the town can be woken up from her illusions.  I liked how Vision broke in when she was rolling credits for a good levitating argument.  I'd like to argue like that with my wife - me and her hovering over the bed, her about to throw a fireball at me.

I was a Marvel comic nut when I was a kid, including visits to the comic conventions they used to have at a hotel in midtown Manhattan.   On balance, I haven't been as crazed about the mega budget movies of this era though there have been some good ones.  Thought the first 2 X Men movies were real solid.  Liked the second Captain America movie for its dark paranoiac feel.  The best ones, though, are the ones that break formula, like Logan and the funny Thor movie (and Deadpool). WandaVision obviously breaks formula in a very daring way.

 Very on point!  It's probably heresy to say this, but I think the big budget Marvel movies kind of missed the boat on a lot of good Marvel legend.  They can't get their **** together on Fantastic Four, which in my mind is a shame.  That first Captain America movie was probably the best of the lot, and Deadpool is on a whole other level.  I think the WandaVision show runners kind of get that, which is why they are unraveling it in the way they are.  It's been very purposeful, and they did not care if people didn't get it initially.  

It sounds like we read comics around the same time, and I almost want to make another thread about comics they could be doing now that would be better.  Another part of me thinks that would be a waste, as I'm genuinely surprised no one has thought of it before now.  I will tell you I'm not as excited about the upcoming Eternals movie, as I think it will stink to high heaven.  Then there is the new Fantastic Four movie, which would be better off as a TV show anyway.  Netflix did a way better job with Daredevil, but I digress.

I started to fade out as the comics became super self-serious (and expensive).  I suppose something was gained and something was lost in the change.  I think I mentioned this a long time ago but I read the Ta-Nehisi Coates-penned Black Panther comic/graphic novel and found it to be utterly mystifying and pretentious.  It came packaged with the original 1962 I think Lee/Kirby first issue of the FF comic with the Black Panther in it and it was such fun, with that old Kirby/Lee whimsy and self-deprecation that was in every Marvel comic at that time (at least in the letter column).  I miss that. 

BTW I got Kirby's autograph at one of those conventions but I'm sure it disappeared decades ago.

 WOW! I'm not familiar with that Black Panther book, but I used to follow the Jack Kirby museum on Facebook when I was on that platform (I've given up social media for various reasons).  Jack's autograph is like getting one of the Beatles to sign an album for you.  Back in the day I went to my share of conventions, but it was way before they were the events they are today.  My comic con days are more like Chasing Amy, which makes that movie so much more funny today.  Closest I got to that sort of thing was the woman who played Zan on Farscape autographing her action figure package for me.  You know? Zan? 

 Yeah, Marvel did have a great way of laughing at themselves and Kirby/Lee were a big part of that.  This show seems like a nod to that, if you ask me.  Characters laughing at themselves and doing things a bit unexpected is along those lines.  Fans pick up on that, and now a new generation can do so as well I guess? 

I was one of those geeks that got their letters published, by the way.  I've lost or sold my collection, but it was in a Starlin book whose name escapes me at the moment.

Just watched Episode 6 and I have two words, "OH FUDGE!".

Thoughts anyone? Yes, we can have spoilers here, but only after enough people have watched it.  

Not giving anything away, but this show is unfolding way better than I thought it would.
