I signed up a couple years ago. It gives me a heads up about important stuff that's coming my way and yes, confirms that I am getting mail or not that day.
More importantly, it verifies an email address to your home address, so no one else can claim they're you, sign up for an account, and start having your mail redirected to another address.
I just hate the name. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said “Informed Consen... oh, wait, Informed Delivery”

I did it by snail mail. But yeah, they do verify that you are who you say you are so you can’t spy on someone else’s mail so you can run over there and snatch their retirement checks
My mom is unable to get informed delivery. She lives in a corner house. Her “real” address is the door they never use, and Mail was frequently stolen from the porch, so 30+ years ago they went to the post office and were given “open” numbers available on the side street for her to use (2,4,6,8, and 10 were still open) and has used that address with no issue for over three decades. But apparently in some computer system somewhere her address still doesn’t exist. Her “real” address is shown as eligible, and my home across the street on her alternate address is eligible.

I have this free service and really like it. I receive an email every day showing me what I should be receiving in the mail that day. Once or twice a letter is delayed to the next day, but for the most part it is accurate
What I really like is when I don’t receive mail for a few days in a row, my email verifies that this is correct and I’m not stuck worrying that my mail was being held or mis delivered to another address.
With all the mail issues in Maplewood I figured people would want to hear about this
