Tree Peonies - Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden (Staten Island)
Its a great spot. Snug Harbor is wonderful. ctrzwife was on the board of the Childrens Museum there for many years, following her mother who co-founded it in the 70s. Another hidden gem. (Aside: the folks who run the catering in the great hall are the same group doing up the Biergarten in sO’s Village Hall.)
And one of the best beer selections in NYC (and some good Tex-mex) is but two minutes away.

Gorgeous. I've been looking for Tree Peonies but I accidently bought Itoh Peonies, a hybrid. I'm still looking around. I have the herbaceous variety and was plagued with powdery mildew. I've heard it is not as prevalent in the tree specimens.

Yes, I get mildew on the regular peonies, but not the tree peonies.
Unfortunately, the tree peonies do not last as long as the regular peonies.

The regular ones can last for ages. I have my great grandmother’s peony. I don’t know how long she had it, but she died in 1958 so it it at least 60 years old
Ours have just this morning begun to open!
Went there because Staten Island Orchid Society had a small exhibit & plant sale over the weekend.
One of my orchid acquaintances is on the board of Snug Harbor, so we got a guided tour of the Chinese Scholars Garden. Absolutely worth a visit.
The tree peonies in the botanical garden were just opening (as are mine here in Maplewood), so I put my camera to good use:
