Top Songs of the 80's

Been watching 80's videos on YouTube.  This has to be in the top ten:

I feel like I'm back in the Limelight or Danceteria!

Gosh, how young everyone looks! cheese and look at the hair! Even when we remember the music those little details don’t quite leap out so crisply...

And Madonna is 60, whoever thought that would be a sentence??

I've long thought Bowie "Let's Dance" to be the quintessential 80s song.

ANYTHING by the Psychedelic Furs.

 Well played.

I always post this one.

But this one really kicked it off for me.

A definitive track where I was at.

I found that very hard to watch.

I'm not sure what I was listening to in the 80s? AfroBeat? Jazz? Funkadelic? Not any of this stuff. But 3 years ago I was introduced to this 80s track by Marck Asch, a local musician. I dig it. Not sure why, it's no less putrid than the others posted here.

Nick Lowe devotes a whole verse to the mockery of Rick Astley and that song in "All Men Are Liars."

Brief thread drift: About 20 years ago, Nick Hornby wrote a wickedly funny New Yorker essay along similar lines, using as a springboard O.V. Wright’s “I’d Rather Be Blind, Crippled and Crazy” (“somewhere pushing up daisies, than to let you break my heart all over again”).

REM was such a great band before they all died in a plane accident and never signed with Warner Bros (which is what I choose to believe these days).

A chance purchase (I liked the album cover) that carried me into the ’90s.

I agree on I’ll Melt With You- one of my all time favorites. Some of my others:

Forever Young- Alphaville

Chains of Love- Erasure

Pictures of You- The Cure

Lovesong- The Cure

Never Tear Us Apart- INXS

I loved 80s rock too. “Hair” bands. One of my favorites was Zebra.

 Haha! Loved Danceteria!

Zebra! I can't believe someone referenced Zebra. What a blast from the past. Love 'em. The lead singer's voice is like Geddy Lee sucking on helium it's so high.

I heard this in Stop & Shop several months ago and it stopped me in my tracks. The lyrics seemed so relevant.

I worked at the Limelight. I ran the VIP room.

When Simple Minds added Robin Clark as their backing vocalist...

Gotta have something from Roxy Music.

Oh Yeah.  (See what I did there?  cheese )

Not really a "hit" but I'll post it anyway....
