Thoughts on Congressman Payne?

Around here we spend an AWFUL LOT OF TIME talking about politics and yet, somehow, our own representative seems to go unmentioned.

I would be interested in what the various factions of our local political community (Nan, Nohero, Sbenois etc....) think of our own personal representative in DC.

I am not on your list, but I think he is ineffective.  Our district could do a lot better.  Of course Newark drives that seat, and there are a lot of good people there if they could just get past the machine.

I think he doesn’t measure up at all to his dad, but he votes the way I want him to almost all of the time so he’s ok.

It seems he's very comfortable, like Joe Crowley was in NY.

I'm not a fan of dynasties and the way the Congressman inherited the seat from his father has always left me cold.

That said, I have met him and he seems like a genuinely caring and involved individual, even if his health concerns appear to sap his vigor.

It is a "dynasty" issue. I think he was pushed into the position by political bosses trying to avoid having a person they disfavor from running for and winning the seat.

As to the way he votes no one elected from this District would vote any differently.

I agree with FilmCarp. He is ineffective and living off of his father's legacy.

He certainly has not made a mark or been impressive as his father or Rodino, who preceded senior Payne.  But as ml1 said I essentially find his voting record to meet my expectations.

I also agree that as a representative, his voting represents what we want.  I've met him also, and I like the fact that he spends time in the communities he represents.
