toasting a fresh bagel

If the bagel is more than 2 hours old it’s not ‘fresh’ any more (speaking as a sometime baker of bagels). Your only option with a bagel of unknown age IS to toast. cheese

Here’s to a fresh bagel!

Alexa. I don't want my doors unlocked or people in my house when I'm not home. I have a programmable thermostat and lighting. Can someone else ask Alexa to open the door for them, can she be hacked like all other things computer?

It’s called Door Dash, not Curb Dash.

Everyone should refuse to go to the curb!

...There is no equal! I actually stopped making my own after tasting Rao’s. No point. They nailed it.

I know this is late but:

The use of "is is" in verbal language.  This does not appear in written language.  Must have begun with Bill Clintons testimony.  Does anyone else even notice this?

(Who the Andy is is Griffith, not Reid.)

is is - goes back before Clinton.  I remember it from about 1965 in the speech of a guy out of rural (Appalachian?) Ohio who came up with some fairly complex sentences and may have sort of lost his way after a long subordinate clause.  Memory doesn't extend to an example.

eta: it was not correct usage like that quoted by Dave S above.

I always felt like Long Island should be its own state or even country.

Please don't lump those of us born in Queens with those who grew up on the island.

Yeah, cuz Queens has no class at all. The Island rules!

I like that movie but I don't know how well it's held up.

Here's one for me, because I never saw it until I was in my 40s at which point it just seemed juvenile and pointless:

The Blues Brothers

Sometimes juvenile and pointless is just what you need.

I'd say WHMS has held up, technically, but I never got the appeal in the first place. It's got some great scenes, and some stuff in it that annoys me, and I kind of wish we got the movie about Carrie Fisher and Bruno Kirby instead.

I've only made it through the Blues Brothers once, when I was distracted by a drum machine and couldn't stop playing it. I was 13/14 then, and all the other kids in the house loved it, but I just wanted to make fat beats.

No joke: I don't get why Jamie has deleted my thread on the new Bagelry opening here in WO this month. I consider it to be a valid discussion, (perhaps even a PSA!), but by no means non-paid advertising. If Jamie's so anxious for non-MOLers to take out ads here, maybe he should call (or even visit?) the shop once it opens, and solicit Jarrett's business. I claim an over-reach on Mr. Ross' part, despite him being the Donald Trump of this little oligarchy... I'm out. Ban me altogether if you wanna, Jamie. I don't care...

-s.

I was wondering about that place, as I drive past it a few times a week. This month you say? I'll keep an eye out.

I didn't realize Jamie deleted the thread - if he deleted it as non-paid advertising, I don't get it either. Nor do I agree.
