The Omicron BA.2 variant is now reversing the trend in Europe

For several days I have been quiet on this and the other COVID threads. With every passing day, I see more reports of other countries experiencing a reversal due to omicron BA.2 and now other variants in other lineages. Hospitals are filling back up. More people are opening up about how they have been re-infected by omicron BA.1 after recovering from omicron BA.1. Natural immunity is not protective lately. Even vaccinated & boosted people are contracting BA.1 and BA.2 has been shown to be more transmissible.

I'm sick of seeing people not heeding the warnings on the news and I hope we avoid repeating the same mistakes we made this past winter.

In addition to monitoring the wastewater for the amount of COVID particles and the distribution of the variants in the samples, there is another informal index from one of the women I'm following on Twitter who works as a nurse. Not an OR or ER nurse, an educator. Yet, she has tracked the number of emails, texts and other notifications she gets about enticing pay for itinerant nurses to come and fill in the ranks at various places around the country. The request frequency and locations are picking up for her and her colleagues.

You might check out r/nursing on reddit. I'm starting to wonder if we'll have any nurses in five years.

I'm no on Reddit. Will I get depressed if I do that?

Possibly, but not as depressed as the nurses. Probably better not to go there.

Questions:  About a month ago, Peter W posted news about an article in Nature (or was it Science?) magazine about the origin of the covid virus.  It was a pre-print article.  I could not find it with a google search.  Has this article been printed for the public yet?   As I recall, the article had very in-depth virus information which I did not understand, but one of its conclusions was that the covid virus did not originate in the Wuhan lab.  Am I remembering right?

Doctors are reporting the start of a Spring wave in Ontario today.  Rising positivity, wastewater numbers, and hospitalizations as BA.2 becomes the dominant variant.

Dammit. North America has had so much warning about this. If only there was something we could do.
