The Cassidy

Think the opening of this restaurant deserves its own thread. Saw people eating in there today. Anyone been yet?

might have been staff. I walked by this evening and it looked like a training session was going on.

Saw a number of people at the bar from about 7-9. Might have been a soft opening

see my post above.  I walked right by the door and it looked like a training session.  I didn't see food or drink in front of anyone.

Just walked past the windows. The space isn't finished yet, but there is some training going on.

We've eaten at the mothership, The Gladstone Tavern and that bodes well for this spot.

Clever and creative cooking!

Good Luck!

People were in there tonight but I don't think it was officially open yet.

the place was packed.  I got the vibe that it was a party of some sort.  Maybe the owners kicked things off with a private event.

I asked -- it was a private party.  they are hoping to open in the next week.  Need some final approvals, etc.

Someone just posted on FB that it is open and "packed"

yes, they opened tonight

it was packed.  Only the bar was open.  Not the restaurant yet.  Just the bar menu.

Anyone know when the entire restaurant opens

I was there tonight, but couldn't even get a seat at the bar.  Place was packed.  I think they said the main dining area will open this Friday.  It might have been next Friday, though -- lots of jostling and activity.  Number is 973-762-5433 (I picked up a card).

Nice to see another popular place downtown, doing well.  Coda is great (and a bit less pricey), and I think they both will end up co-existing very nicely.

Coda is great........like especially their friendly and efficient servers.  Have my trepidation though.  With

the old Highland Place reopening soon.......the Village will have three restaurant / bars offering meals in the fine dining category.  I wish well of all of them but I just don"t know that there will be enough business en toto to keep them all in the black.

Le Cassidy est mort, vive le Cassidy!

Well played!

Speaking of that, what is the origin of the name The Cassidy, if any?

And what's happening at Highland Place? I walked by there recently and it still seemed in mid-renovation.

Even the name “Cassidy” is a nod to the daughter of a lifelong family friend and business partner.

I think it's a good thing for the Village.  Hopefully it will make places like Coda step up their game.  I think Coda is okay but it can be very hit or miss and every time I walk to the bathroom, the kitchen looks dirty.  I do agree that their servers are always very nice.

agree.  There is plenty of business to go around if all of the establishments deliver for their clientele at their respective price points.  Last night, both The Cassidy and Coda were packed.  We ended up at Coda, ordered some bar food, and it was very good.  I was also pleasantly surprised to see that they apparently added acoustic panels to tame the noise. That was always my main complaint about Coda, and they seemed to have fixed it.

The rumor I heard last night is that the restaurant going in on Highland Place is described as a bistro.  That would be a niche that isn't really filled in the village right now.

My only complaint so far is that The Cassidy has been too crowded for me to get in and sample it grin

As for "fine dining", we've long considered Steve Hayek's stint as Chef at the Gate to be the remaking of the place...

-s.

Interesting how differently people can use a term like "fine dining."  I wouldn't call Coda or St. James's Gate "fine dining."  To me, that's a place like Lorena.  Places with white tablecloths, and a more formal style and presentation.  Coda is more casual, as would be a bistro, and definitely a pub.  From what I've read, The Cassidy also appears to be aiming at more of a casual than a formal vibe.

I'm looking forward to trying it, but a little wary of the crowds. I hope this isn't going to be like Arturo's where seems to be permanently hard to get in.

wow-maplewood is the place to be (and eat!)

all very exciting!

Very exciting!  I love Lorena's but obviously it's a special occasion kind of place.  I'm sure the food will be wonderful and it's great to have another restaurant with a liquor license.
