We read in horror of all the protests, and the ‘confusion’ on the streets, with media crews treated as rabblerousers. As is constantly pointed out in disbelief, these scenarios are usually the hallmarks of nations in civil war or in the throes of violent oppression.
What’s even more worrying is when foreign media credentials are deemed worthless:

I know the crew have said they’re fine, but that’s not the point. I’ve also read elsewhere journos from other countries have been shot or beaten by police/national guards or were arrested.

Federal, state, and local governments are intimidating and arresting journalists as they attempt to do their jobs and cover the protests. This should scare the crap out of everyone, regardless of what party you support. One step closer to an autocracy.

ASBURY PARK — Police arrested an Asbury Park Press reporter covering protests in the city Monday night.
The newspaper identified the reporter as Gustavo Martínez Contreras. He'd been live-streaming the aftermath of a rally Monday night via Twitter. Caution: The embedded video below includes images of violence and profanity.
