He's going to claim he has it then be shown living his life completely normally. See, it's not that bad! This is a last desperate attempt to downplay the pandemic.

Hope Hicks was quarantined on AF 1 on the flight back from Minnesota on Wednesday, so it was known on Weds. that she tested positive. She is seen getting off the flight wearing a mask but she was seen getting on Marine One on the trip out to MN with a whole group of WH officials, including Kushner and Miller, without a mask. I would guess that they have to be quarantined, although I haven't heard anything about that yet.
It’s another one of his “rope a dope” tactics. This way he doesn’t have to debate anymore, no public appearances, and he’s free to be on Twitter all day long. Then he emerges claiming he took his “magic bullet” medicine, and now he’s robust and in the best health of any president in the history of America. Then his numbers will upwards a couple of points. He will appear like JC did on the third day...
This guy’s face should be on the $3 bill..
This will also hijack at least one 24-hour news cycle. And probably more. It will certainly give MAGA nation ammunition to go after anyone who dares criticize Trump while he's sick.
Net effect: he gets a shield from negative press for a while.

This is interesting. A guy on Twitter predicted the announcement. A specific air force plane, the E-6B Mercury, appeared over the East Coast around midnight. It's an airborne strategic command center. Useful if land-based command facilities are destroyed by nuclear weapons.

Good advice. It's hard to observe norms of civil discourse when Trump is involved. But it doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

Maybe but I don't see how that enema could be administered. Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham at least would need to step aside.

It works in a "backed into a corner" way.
In two weeks he emerges triumphant over COVID-19 with the help of hydroxychloroquine proving to his supporters that the pandemic is nothing to fear. It's overblown by liberals. He then has a massive rally tour for the last couple of weeks to get out the vote.
And there will be a "Trump Health Watch" in the top-of-the-hour news for two weeks. People won't be talking about tax evasion or his statements about the military or his behavior at the debate. Journalists and late-night hosts will feel compelled to pull punches a little for fear of a public backlash. Reasonable Democrats will warn each other not to be petty or nasty.
The Glen Becks of the world will weaponize the worst reactions from any liberal to demonize all liberals and democrats for attacking a man who got sick because he was brave enough to keep working for the people.
I don't believe it's a fake announcement but wouldn't be shocked if we found out it was.

that's my take on this. This White House is certainly willing, capable and eager to lie about absolutely anything. But I don't see what Trump gains by lying about contracting COVID. He can't do any rallies for at least a couple of weeks, and I don't see any way this helps him with voters he needs to reach. The only ones who will believe that the virus is "nothing" if Trump says he beat it handily are his base. The White House has been reckless toward the virus all year, and now they appear to have their own outbreak. How does this help with undecided voters? No matter what Trump says about recovering from the virus, they would know that this infection was a direct result of the same bad advice he's been giving all year as more than 200,000 deaths piled up. I think all it does is remind people that his recklessness is why the country remains in the dire place it is regarding COVID-19.
otoh, these folks aren't all that smart about these things, and maybe they think it would generate sympathy and admiration for Trump if he was shown to have beat coronavirus with his "great genes" and his "big brain." So even though I don't think they're lying, with these bastards it's always smart to leave the door open to the possibility that they're lying.

I I think we are on the same page.
His base isn't going anywhere. He needs to motivate as many of them to come out to vote. I think a two-week run of rallies leading up to election day would be as effective as anything else at this point.

Dr. Scott Gottlieb is on CNBC and says that the timing suggests that Trump didn't get COVID from Hope Hicks but they probably got it from a common source. He also said that the risk is high that anyone who was close to them will get the virus.

He assumed his protective cocoon would keep the virus away. Their daily constant testing of anyone who is allowed to get close to him and the distancing with the public. It should have worked. The assumption was that daily testing anyone would catch the infected before their viral load was great enough to be a danger. Something slipped by. Maybe he can blame Fauci.

but I think you’re asking a lot of the friends and families of all those he murdered with his lies early on about this disease...
