Stony's

Noticed this weekend that Stony's is closed.  Sad.  Loved their lobster roll when the Pub wasn't available.

Actually the new place is getting raves. The Stony's folks moved to the beach in VA and it is now Miti Miti, which serves Latin street food and still has some of the old menu from Stony's. The new owners live in S.O. and have two restaurants in Brooklyn, one with the same name, and all seem very popular.

Yes, looked great.  Have to try it.

Miti Miti is really good.  a big improvement in food quality.

Those prices are excellent! Finally, someone who gets how much a cheeseburger should cost!

Is there anything in particular you recommend?  It looks great!

Have heard the fish tacos are very good

I gotta try the Latin Cobb salad.

Hate to say it, but my wife and I didn't care for it. Not our style. Too much fried stuff. Empanadas and fish tacos were way too greasy. Worse than that the side dining room was filthy. Wife had to clean off her table. As all available tables were dirty. No excuse really. It's not like they were swamped.

That's the problem everywhere. If you tell the staff to keep the place clean like they would their house, you realize how they may leave things in their house.

Pro tip: if you can find a slice of cheese for less than $1.25, buy it and put it on the burger yourself.

Burger was good  --- and by the way, it seems every restaurant charges way too much for adding a slice of cheese.   Burger was much better than the one I had when it was under prior ownership.

I have tried all the Tacos and all were good.  Veggie Taco and Beef Taco were my favorites.

Empanadas were good but a little pricey since they are the smaller version.

And yes, they do not clean off the tables fast enough when someone leaves (which seems typical for places that do not have full service).

I can see this *maybe* if you are getting takeout or delivery, but then the cheese might not be melted right, or at all.

But bringing your own cheese to a resto and putting it on your burger?  You don't want to be that guy.

well, it's one thing if the restaurant has a cheese license. But as you know many restaurants in New Jersey are byoc.

Just hope they don't have a cheese alarm

some items were ok, nothing great there.  I was extremely disappointed in the Cuban as the ham appeared to be straight out of a can.

Tacos were good.  Chicken sandwich still good but no way is this place the equal of the last one

My son is very sad that they no longer have mushrooms as a burger topping!  Haven’t made it there yet myself, but hoping to soon

Tacos were good!  Had chicken, fish and pork belly.

I didn't much care for Stony's, as I found that when I requested my burgers to be cooked  "well done" they were often served raw or even icy in the center. After a while I just stopped going.

I am looking forward to trying the new place. We certainly could use some good tacos in SO (something to compete with Abril Cocina in MW, which I like quite a bit).

Agreed about the Stony's burgers.  When I saw Stony, he told me it was impossible for the burgers to be "icy" in the center  as they "never " put their beef in a freezer.  Except then he said well, they sometimes on weekends had to freeze some of the beef because the deliveries were a few days apart.

This place is  an upgrade from Stony's but still needs to do  work on improving the indoor dining area.

we did takeout awhile ago and tried several things. Takeout is NOT my favorite way to try a place (or even eat).

Some items were in the nicer cardboard type takeout but a few things were in styrofoam.

Loved the veggie empananda. Nachos were different but I liked them. Grilled veggie platter was just ok. It's def a fair price for the amount of food--rice, beans, plantains and the veggies but it was missing something. I asked them to put some sauce on the side but I dont think they did. Still, it's great to HAVE a veggie option. Wish they did a grilled fish or shrimp platter too.

I usually prefer dining in so I hope it becomes a nicer dining experience, even if it's totally casual.

I tried Miti Miti today and I have to say that I really enjoyed it.  My wife and I shared the carne asada taco, the tico taco and the pork belly taco.  They were all really good with an interesting use of spices. I had a serving of flan for desert which was also quite good.

For Mexican food, it was very nice.  For NJ Mexican food, it was awesome!
