Steemit.com is a social media platform where posters/content creators can earn $$

Hi all- There is a new social media platform to check out- just launched in its Beta form.  It is called Steemit and you get paid in a cryptocurrency called Steem just for posting content.  You can also earn by 'upvoting'.  The better the content (as determined by the users), the more can be earned.

Cryptocurrencies have, up til now, just been available as a traded commodity.  I believe this is the first cryptocurrency to reach the consumer.

Here's the link https://steemit.com/

and some PR

mrincredible- did you try the steemit link?

No. Your post seemed somewhat spammy. Too much like those "Make 10,000 a month from home!" emails.

Hmmm... question for the OP --- what does ffof stand for?

Fickle Finger of Fate.  It's an old Laugh-in schtick if I remember.

Guys and gals- I have posted this in Science/Technology.  It is serious. Check it out.  Read the links.

Steemit is the first consumer app that uses Blockchain technology.  Blockchain technology is the wave of the future.

Yes... yes, I know. It was a "has-a-hacker-taken over ffof's handle" question before I click on any links.  oh oh

Using micropayments for a Ponzified lukewarm Reddit clone is perhaps the least inspired application of the blockchain yet. And who chooses these domain names? If they ever got into an investor pitch the venture capitalist would be thinking "Steemit, a steaming pile of..".

buy an ad, cheapskate

From what I have been reading on the Steemit site, that is not what anyone is thinking.  More like Full Steem Ahead .

There must be some other reference work I could look that up in.

the links from the first post are specific to Steemit

" Steem is currently trading at the US based crypto-exchange, Bittrex.com and at the Blockchain based ledger, Openledger.info. Steemit will also soon be available on mobile app." as reported by Richard Kastelein for the-blockchain.com

Why not just pay cash?

the points earned are actually Steem points.  Half can be converted to dollars and half iwll be vested (some number of weeks- i can't remember, but i read it on one of the Steemit threads.  )  The blckchain allows for Steem to be traded on an exchange which creates the market and the value.  Steem is already being traded. By keeping your Steem points vested, you earn Steem Power.  THe more Steem power you have, the more you can earn.

SOme day in the future, we won't need cash (dollars!)  Transactions will be done on blockchain with cryptocurrency like Steem. No banks.

I'm imagining a time in the near future where maplewoodonline can be hooked into the Steem blockchain and by upvoting and posting good content (as backed by the upvotes) we can all earn Steem power,  Steem dollars....buying power!  As well, the algorythym allows for Maplewoodonline to earn steem power which would be another revenue source for Dave and Jamie.

So you're writing for a company which only pays you half for your content, then the other half of your pay's value is based on the buying and selling of your half-paycheck by other people?

The only thing I'm thinking:  did someone hack into ffof's account?

okay you guys, No one has hacked my account, but I think it's time to stop listening to me! I'm a newbie to this and there are much better explanations than mine from people who are much more knowledgeable.

Coinreport.net follows news about crypto currencies and is a good place to learn about block chain.

Bloomberg is also writing about block chain.

Just trying to keep you guys current- even ahead of the curve.

If you're blogging anyway, why not blog and earn?

Blog and earn?  You mean blearn? Quick reserve blearn.org!

There's a difference between blogging for yourself and blogging for an audience. If your writing is good enough to get paid for, why not get paid all the money you're worth, rather than getting half and giving the rest to strangers to gamble with?

What else would work with that practice? If I went to a farmers market and ordered a lifetime's subscription of porterhouse steaks and told the guy I'll give them half the money for it now, and the other half I'm placing on Fat Old Loser to win at Monmouth Racetrack, I would rightly be laughed at, no?

It's almost as bad as the Huffngton Post model, ferchrissake.

a blogger is just an example.  The forum looks like reddit.  Start a topic, any topic.  It's like maplewoodonline.  Imagine if people just up voted your last post, you would earn points.

Hasn't anyone even opened the steemit.com site?

How much do we get for opening it? How much do they get?

if you log on you will start with 10 steem $.  Right now you have to log on with Facebook id.  I think that may change in the future.  It is in the beta form right now, they are working out kinks and ease of use to be ready for July 3 launch.

There are a ton of techie nerdie people on now all talking about steem and block chain but people have started some political discussions and other topics as well.

One thing to note is that if you edit a post, you will lose points - one of the kinks they will fix.

"They" don't get anything.  They have steem power just like anyone. Also, anyone can buy steem on the exchange called bittrex.com.  It's a commodity.

steem.com doesn't make any money from people landing on their site? What a ***** idea. Who's putting up the cash for a site which doesn't even make money from hits?

I noticed there are dollar values at the end of each post. Is that how much each person has earned in total or on each post?

On the home page its the total value of the thread.

On the posts and comments, its the value of the posts and comments.

APparently the developers are working on new ways of presenting the rewards.
