Springsteen (or other) album advice for road trip

Hi all - I am a relatively new, but enthralled, fan of Bruce S.  I am about to leave on a trip and would like to bring along a few new (to me) CDs.  I have listened and listened to Tunnel of Love and Greatest Hits and love them both, and was wondering what you all would recommend next?  Old or new.  Anybody have an opinion of Western Stars yet?

Thanks for you thoughts -

(yes, CDs, I am media-ancient)

The early ones: Greetings from Asbury Park; The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle; Born to Run; Darkness on the Edge of Town

I like Western Stars and would probably bring it along, as it has a road trip vibe to it.

Always good to recommend the early ones.  For a later album, "Magic" is one that I'd recommend (if I didn't just say, "Get them all").

The songs aren't written by Bruce, but The Seeger Sessions album, with a horde of musicians playing vintage instruments has a lot of great car singalong type songs if that's what you're after.

I'd suggest the audible read by Springsteen of his Born to Run book.

I recommend starting at Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ and working your way forward chronologically - a great introduction, lots of road trip time, and super fun!

(or other)

Son Volt: Okemah and the Melody of Riot (nothing like reverb on the open road)

The Silos: Cuba (there’s even a song about a Mary)

Yup! I was thinking that, too.

A second for the Seeger sessions -- great road music.

Darkness On The Edge Of Town has a few songs that explicitly about driving, so to me an obvious road trip album. Also The River would be a great choice for me. It's a double album, and the car is a great place to have the time to listen to it all the way from start to finish. And it also has quite a few songs about driving -- Sherry Darling, Hungry Heart, Cadillac Ranch, Ramrod, Stolen Car, Wreck On The Highway.

Then follow that with Nebraska, especially if your trip is taking you through the wide open spaces of the country.

Ooh, thanks ALL!!

This all started by reading the book (very highly recommended, even for non-fans like I was).  I will send for several of the albums and (to quote a different group) have fun fun fun!

(Not going through any really wide open spaces, but 5 days or so on my own out of a 10 or 12 day trip:  Wisconsin - south around the lake - through Michigan - Ontario (Niagara) - Philadelphia (Bruce song i simply can't listen to) - back maybe via Indianapolis) : )  : )

When you get tired of the Boss (if that's possible). -I never get tired of Roxy Music Avalon album, -straight through. -Especially good for night time driving.

The River, to me, was his best overall work, with Nebraska right behind it.  My credentials are that I'm 52, my brothers are older than me, and I grew up in Trenton and on Long Beach island.  I listened to this on an 8 track in my brothers 77 t bird driving through the pine barrens.

I'd also consider going online and buying a live recording. Here are a few that would be great for a road trip :

Newark, 2016 (I was at this show) -- he performs The River start to finish:

Nassau, 1980 -- one of the longest shows he ever performed, and still considered among his best:

Two more legendary shows from 1978:

Roxy in LA:

Capitol Theater in Passaic :

These are not bootlegs, they're authorized releases, so the sound is very good. If you are a new fan, these will be quite a treat to hear.
