SOMA Sings Community Sing Along

We are starting a Community Sing Along called SOMA Sings. Here are the questions I am often asked about it, and their answers.

What is a Community Sing Along?
It means we will gather together as a community and sing songs. Each event will be focused on songs of a particular theme.

What is the first theme?
The first theme will be folk music.

When/where is the first event?
The first event will be at the Burgdorff Center in Maplewood on Tuesday November 17th at 7:30 pm.

What if I am not a good singer?
This is for any one who derives joy from singing. It is for professional singers, shower-only singer and everything in between.

Are there rehearsals?
There are no rehearsals. If you would like to know the song list ahead of time, we will post it with links to the song so you can listen and learn it if you are not already familiar with the songs.

What ages?
This event is meant for people ages 16 and older.

How often will these events happen?
This is still up in the air. Once a month at most, quarterly at least.

How can I keep up to date with this event or get involved?
You can join our Facebook group called SOMA Sings.

Do I need to bring anything?
No, just your voice. If you play guitar and would like to play along, you can do so.

This sounds wonderful!

Could you post a link to the Facebook group? A search for "SOMA Sings" comes up with a lot of other options.

I love this. Thank you for doing this. What a wonderful contribution to the fabric of SOMa and to the community.

I am someone with a shower only voice LOL but I may come anyway.

Just a thought that might or might not fit in with your sing along . Don't want to interfere - so you can do with this what you will.

Every year on Thanksgiving at noon 104.5 broadcasts "Alice's Restaurant" . There used to be a local fan who would come on MOL and invite anyone who wanted to experience it as a group , to come to his house to listen.

I think it would be nice if there were a sing along. A lot of it would be listening - but we could all sing along to the 'you can get anything you want" part.

Oh @SarahZM! You HAVE to come! I'm going to be a piano player. And I'm going to try to see about Alice!

I am doing my tra-la-las of excitement right now. What a lovely thing to have organized, and I'm looking forward to coming! My college chorus professor always reminded us that singing should always remain a part of our lives, and to make sure it does as it is such a feel-good thing. Amen to that!

Yay Mplwdmom. I feel the same way. That's what motivated this.

Looking forward to Tuesday.  Where will the list of songs be posted?

Here you go:

Both Sides Now

Circle Game

This Land is Your Land

Bridge over Troubled Waters

Blowin in the Wind

Leaving on a Jet Plane
