Snowshoeing

We bought snowshoes a few years ago, used them once, and did not use them again until yesterday in the Reservation.  It's grueling and, truth be told, I can't say its exactly a lot of fun but if you want to burn calories, it's a real good way to go.  The Res is lovely in the snow and just walking in the snow with good boots is a pretty good calorie burn as well.

A group from the club went out yesterday on snowshoes. I figured ;your experience would be the same as mine so I never bought a pair.

However, the club people posted photos and it looked like they were having fun. But you never can tell. When I take their photos on  hikes, I tell them to smile and LOOK LIKE you're having fun.

The last time I was on snowshoes was many, many years ago, but I remember it as Big Fun.  We were at a family gathering in VT on 18" of newly fallen snow -- at an outdoor activity park.  Sure, I was younger and more fit, but we were able to maneuver through the woods ON TOP OF the snow -- much easier than we would have on foot.  Maybe it was more "landscaped" for snowshoeing than the Reservation.  Lots of sun and blue sky.  I've often thought about trying it again.  But this many years later, maybe something else to leave to younger folk.

I will try again but I'm no youngster, we were roughing it on the edges of the trails where it was hilly with trees and my shoes did not really keep me on top of the snow.  I sunk inches on every step.  Maybe they're cheap though they look nice.
