I think things are likely to be booked up, but you may want to try Wildwood Crest or Cape May (as both have lots of hotels/motels).
If you don't mind not being directly ON the beach, and having to drive a little bit to get there - a few years back I took my boys down to the Ocean Grove area last minute. We stayed at the Residence Inn Neptune. You are in strip mall city, but you are only about 5 miles west of the beach at Ocean Grove. We had no problem driving to the beach and finding parking and spent our first day on the OG beach. The next day we went to Point Pleasant, which was a half hour away.
There is an indoor pool at the hotel so we had something to do when we got back there in the evening. Since the hotel is not in a prime beach-area, you might have better luck with getting a room. Have fun!

I posted awhile back, we stayed someplace last year for a night over Labor Day weekend. On 35? 33? A few mins down the road from Asbury/ocean grove. Easy to drive to the beach, nice big suite, bkfst included, I think I got thrupriceline for under $100
Most won't do 1 nt on a summer weekend unless it's one of those very last minute on-line deals

The weekend forecast looks great. Any recommendations of a hotel near a nice beach town that might have one or two night options and stuff to do in the evenings? We have elementary-age kids so b&b wont work. We normally just do day trips.
