Severe Thunderstorm Watch 6/30/15

Okay, this isn't really my thing. But I'll get it started for the MOL Weather Weenies.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS EXTENDED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 372 TO INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING AREAS UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING
IN NEW JERSEY THIS WATCH INCLUDES 2 COUNTIES
IN NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY
ESSEX UNION

Just saw this, too.....and tonight was supposed to be the best view of the Jupiter/Venus conjunction in Leo - it's been very bright all month, but I was really looking forward to seeing this tonight. Maybe tomorrow evening will be clear, since it isn't a one-time-only event.

We heard on loud boom here in Montrose and that was it. Hubbie and daughter are off trying to look at Jupiter/Venus right now. Hope they see something!

Wow, this one woke me up at 4am! That is some intense rain!!

This one's a doozy. My dog jumped into our bed an hour ago and hasn't left.

Our dog jumped under our bed.

The emergency alert system on my phone just woke me up with an ear-splitting alarm...

...and of course the NWS Mt. Holly radar is unavailable right now...

I also was awoken by the ear splitting alarm.

There is a tree lying across my road .. No power lines though thankfully. Are we supposed to report that or will DPW somehow know? (Maplewood)

There are a couple of exits from our street and I do not think anybody's driveway is blocked so not really an emergency.

The one night I opened the windows above our bed. My husband slept through the whole thing.

CLK: Yes, you should report it.

Yes, definitely report it. At this hour you should probably contact the police non-emergency line. They'll likely want to know that the street has a blockage.

My wife's phone did the emergency alert thing early in the morning too. The storm didn't really awaken me though.

I thought I was enrolled in every Robo call, code red, yada yada in the book, but I got nada. Do you all sign up for those alerts somewhere

Not sure how I enrolled for that alert but man was that loud and scary. Glad to know and gladder to be able to fall right back asleep

They are government alerts on iPhone - I can't speak to Android. To turn on or off, go to Settings-Notifications and scroll to the bottom. There will be a toggle for weather and Amber Alerts.

I didn't sign up for anything that I recall... started getting the emergency alerts when I upgraded my iPhone a few months ago

It was actually the pounding of the rain on our window AC that woke me up. The thunder wasn't so bad but the lightning was super bright.

Husband has reported tree (actually large limb - couldn't really see it well in the dark) down. I don't think we had much wind - the limb must have been about ready to fall.

In the light, I could see that the road might be just barely passable in a small car, but I didn't attempt it. Went around the other way.

That lightning from 4:15am to about 5 was incredible -- like a strobe light parked under the window!

Well, that explains why when I woke up this morning, I still felt exhausted.

How to turn off the alert..we weren't the only ones awakened
