Second Annual MAPSO Book Festival: Keith Hernandez, Anna Quindlen, David Baldacci, Tayari Jones and More

The second annual Maplewood—South Orange Book Festival will take place on Friday, June 8th and Saturday, June 9th at the Woodland and Words Bookstore.

The festival will open on Friday, June 8th with a cocktail reception and author talk featuring best-selling thriller writer David Baldacci at the Woodland. The cocktail reception begins at 6:00, and David’s talk follows at 7:30.  This event is a benefit for the Maplewood and South Orange libraries, with all proceeds from the ticket sales going to the libraries equally. Tickets can be purchased here.

The main festival will take place on Saturday, June 9th from 10:00AM-5:00PM, at the Woodland and Words Bookstore in Maplewood, and feature over 80 authors, including Oprah Book Club selection Tayari Jones, Anna Quindlen, and Claire Messud. There will also be panels on hot-button topics such as race and education, the rise of white supremacy, and the #Metoo movement. On the less serious side, the festival will host several food and drink panels.

One of the highlights is a talk and signing at 10AM on June 9th by legendary Mets first baseman and announcer--and Seinfeld star--Keith Hernandez in support of his memoir, I'm Keith Hernandez. Tickets for Keith's talk can be purchased here.

The book festival will also have an extensive children’s area, with over 40 children’s and YA authors, as well as a kids “fun zone,” featuring games, music, food, face-painting and general mayhem for kids of all ages. Iconic kid’s author Rosemary Wells will deliver the children’s keynote address.

Except for the Library benefit and the Keith Hernandez talk and signing, all events at the Festival are FREE of charge and open to the public.
