Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (Yeah, That Again)

I know all the reasons (or at least a lot of them) why I shouldn’t care, but ...

Passing over Todd Rundgren bugs me.

if Harold Baines can make it, don't give up hope on Rundgren

That’s some faint praise there.  cheese

Granted, Todd didn’t have as many hits, but you can’t discount his production. (Badfinger! XTC! Meat Loaf!)

I can't believe Tommy James (and the Shondels) are not in...should have been in already...

What is a Shondel anyway?

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_Shondell

However, in 1963, Tommy Jackson changed the name of his high school band from "Tom and the Tornados" to "The Shondells" in honor of Shondell (one of his musical idols). Jackson became "Tommy James" and international fame followed for the act.

I'm generally oblivious and indifferent to the RR Hall but I'm with you on this.  Todd was a giant of the rock era.  There's quite a bit of shlock and/or short lived acts in there that he should be ahead of.

Stevie Nicks is in for the second time, this time as a solo.  In addition to Todd Rundgren, skipping John Prine under those circumstances is ridiculous.

Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Motörhead.... hard to argue these bands were not hugely influential and have the record sales to go with it.

Def Leppard probably belonged in there for their early British metal work. They got (popular) voted in for their post Pyromania work I’d guess. Not saying they don’t belong, but if they do, the aforementioned UK acts should have gone in first.

Phil Lynott and Gary Moore probably belong in there on their own. Gary especially.

Just thinking... for those that only know “The Boys are Back in Town”.... spend some time with Thin Lizzy. Boy are you in for a treat.

Based on the day and date, probably 1976.

ETA: Further research reveals Thin Lizzy had to cancel because of Lynott’s hepatitis.

And just like that, the thread pulls together.

Good that The Cure finally made it though the anti-alternative bias for inductees. There may be some hope for other early alternative snubs like Pixies and Joy Division/New Order.

 Going to google Todd Rundgren.

ETA: Googled Todd Rundgren.  I literally had never heard of him and I don't think I had heard of any of the bands in which he performed.  Apparently he produced for New York Dolls, Meatloaf and XTC who I have heard of but I would probably vote for each of those acts before I would vote for this guy.

Todd Rundgren sucks.

And Def Leppard was eligible over ten years ago,  thus proving R&R HOF is a joke.

I figured the HoF had become a joke when they inducted Bobby Darin as a rock & roller.

Hello, says Todd. It’s me.

I’d be a fool to let a screen name get between me and “Splish Splash.”

If that's a sufficient credential for induction, let's roll out the red carpet for Cliff Richard while we're at it.  And maybe Pat Boone too.

and fwiw, my 3 wtf inductees to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame have for many years been Darin, James Taylor, and Miles Davis.  All of them great artists in their genres, but rock & roll?  Really?

I'm not going to begrudge anyone an honor like that.  But I'm also not going to get too worked up about who's in and who's not when the Hall itself doesn't seem to have any idea how to define what rock & roll is.  If Miles Davis is in, why not Yo-Yo Ma or Beethoven or John Cage?

A Something/Anything? triple shot. Just because.

I'm more partial to Beyond The Sea (but it's not rock & roll).

And why isn't John Denver in the Hall?

Me, too.

And why isn't John Denver in the Hall?

It filled up, my sense is.

Perhaps because he wasn't managed by Tony LaRussa.

oh oh  oh oh  oh oh

If that line doesn’t earn you lifetime clemency from the Commish, I don’t know what.

I think he was managed by Ruben Kincaid

part of me is in awe. And part of me is feeling like this:

Glad to see the Zombies in.  Not a huge hit machine but She's Not There, Tell Her No and Time of the Season are classics of pop/rock.  As is their album Odessey and Oracle.
