My electricity bill is up significantly this year and will probably rise more based on what I've read.
It sounds like one of the main culprits is PJM, the organization that runs the regional grid that includes New Jersey. Others issues include rising demand.
Time to start contacting our local and state politicians, if you haven't already.
AI is a significant contributor to rising electricity costs. It requires so much electrical power. Ditto for digital data stored in the cloud and our increasing dependence on Internet applications. One problem we face in NJ is that our state does not produce enough electrical energy to meet local demand. Therefore, we have to purchase an increasing amount of energy elsewhere.
All my usage is down but my bill has not followed suit at all.
We have always had mysteriously low electric bills so hopefully our increase will be proportional and not extreme.
The only thing you can look at is the per KWH charge change from last year to this. Usage varies.
Can also look at year-to-year change in KWH per day, number of days in billing cycle, and average temp when comparing bottom lines. If those numbers are on your bill.
