Oh, that's sad news to hear! Esp in a holiday week. Let's hope her family and friends know her music and her pioneering spirit brought joy and career dreams to many thousands, and we share part of their sense of loss.

I started this post because I did not want her passing to go unnoticed. She was the only female musician that I can remember from the 70's and 80's that played a musical instrument other than piano or guitar except for Sheila E. who played drums with Prince.

I heard it on the radio yesterday but didn't see any mention of her death in either the Ledger or Times She was 69 years old (cancer) and that lady could sure play a mean trumpet. At a time when female musicians were not that prevalent, she was prominently featured in several of their hits especially on Dance to the Music. She also did some of their vocals as well. I will remember her fondly.
