I think that the real problem was the inconsistency given the higher prices. Top restaurants (e.g., Scalini Fedeli) seem to be holding on just fine notwithstanding the economy.
Got to say, I found them packed on weekends. Never got there on a weeknight -- and perhaps neither did enough regulars, but my gut feel is there is more to this...
Several months before they closed I noticed that all marketing had stopped. Up until that point they were pretty aggressive (and clever).
Oddly, "restuarant mc" is now sending out all sorts of marketing emails for other Millburn businesses -- a hair salon & shoe place most often.
I hope Dr Cooperman and his son didn't lose their shirts over this investment -- or can find a way to turn it around.
