Rechargeable batteries

I have a set of rechargeable batteries and charger from powerextra for my camera.  If I get a set, for the same camera, from wasabi how important will it be to use their charger?  Will damage occur if I use my current charger with another mfr batteries?

TIA

beats me.  batteries are so cheap these days that I gave up on rechargeable long ago.

IMHO though, I think the charging technologies are pretty much all the same. YMMV.

They aren't all the same at all. NiMH batteries are still in some appliances. Mostly you get LiIon batteries, and there, quality matters a heck of a lot. You have to do research and learn to distinguish the crap from the good stuff. Otherwise, you get less for your money, and you face the risk of fire. Charging a cheap LiIon battery unattended is a bad idea. Using a cheap charger is, too.

@Apollo_T find a forum for your camera, and learn what the good batteries and chargers are. You'll find people who get into it too deep, so try to distinguish them from the people who are reasonable.

My fave photog site has discussions and polls about batteries.  OEM battery ~$50.  Various 3rd party ~$15.   Lotsa folks like different ones, with occasional knockoff problems.  I currently have batteries from 2-OEMs and 2-3rd parties plus chargers.  I don’t like #4; #3 NA.  Since I don’t like #4 I’d be adding #5, while keeping #4.  I’d rather not amass the world’s largest collection of chargers, but I don’t want to damage anything either.

Get name brands, but you'd be surprised what some consider to be name brands. For example, generic USB external batteries are offered by many weird-named companies, and the Anker name has become respectable.

Your printer caught fire, so I expect fire risk is a concern to you. Normally, I lean on the side of frugality, but not necessarily with Li-Ion batteries. So on those photo sites, see which names get a lot of respect.
