Real ID Act - NJ Licenses

I need to fly around Christmas to visit family.  Will my drivers license still be accepted as valid ID since NJ isn't in compliance with the Real ID Act?  I'm seeing two dates in this article - October 11, 2018 and October 1st, 2020.  If it's the former, then it means I need to get my passport renewed asap since it expired as an additional form of acceptable identification.  Thanks!

Real ID - de facto national ID card. And to think we made fun of the Soviet Union.

Anyway, too much confusion. No one knows. With this admin we can't predict. However, the powerful airline industry will strongly object if they lose trade.

We have passport cards. They're good for 10 years and much more convenient being the size of a credit card.

Other than the fact that passport cards can’t be used as passports for most international travel, making the name a bit deceptive...but they are smaller and less expensive if they are all you need.
