Political Activism - Please share any groups or events that we can support.

Many people are asking about current protests and not sure how to join or what else they can do. I'm in the same boat so as I hear of things I'll post them and if you are planning something share it please.

Maybe instead of all that unproductive stuff, why don't you recommend that folks contact their Democrat representatives and ask that the party start really paying attention to middle class workers again? THAT's the way to avoid 8 years of Trump.

Yes........a party, a peoples must be organized from within. What was dramatic in the 60's is no more than that

now, dramatic. The great IWW songwriter got it write so many years ago " Don't mourn, Organize"

I'm taking a knee during the National Anthem of every 49ers home game.

@ice and @author fine to organize from within. Please post if you are actively involved with any party meetings. I'm posting things as I hear them. I'm not dictating. I hope others will do as well. At the moment as Trump picks his people, nothing wrong with voicing your complaints through your elected officials, as both Reid and Pelosi are taking their stand. No one is calling in complaining about Priebus but Bannon, is pushing a few buttions.

Reorganizing a party takes time and at the moment I'm focusing on his SCOTUS picks. Here's a great bumper sticker SCOTUS is for life.

I've had some successes with activism so maybe @ice it might not be as unproductive as you may think. And it's more productive than drowning my sorrows in vegan protein shakes.

Now Robert don't be snarky. And for what it's worth I always stand and try to sing louder than anyone! Besides be a good American and go to a hockey game. Go Rangers!

Sounds like this is sticker opponents of a woman's right to control her own body would put on their cars.

It's a perfect bumper sticker if you are trying to sell them. I'm sure just as many Trump voters would enthusiastically buy them as Clintonites. Maybe more so. Just make 'em in red and blue.

True. A real win-win bumper sticker.

It is both terrific and beautiful.

I just called Rep. Payne's office. The very nice lady there said, "Wow, a lot of you are calling! What's going on in Maplewood?" The Congressman was in a meeting with his communications director to work on a statement to this effect - good work peeps!

I posted these on another thread . . . Some useful advice for peacefully challenging racism. Although the second link is titled "Islamophobic" the advice is useful for any type of harassment.

Thank you! People are trying to organize bus travel to the Women's March on Washington. I'll post what I find. I think hotel reservations are pretty filled. I saw a bus group forming from Bergen. I think Amtrak might be filled. I'll post what I find. I've heard it will also be in Philly and I'm checking into New York. January Brrrrrr.

This MOL thread has some good suggestions

P.B.S. has already been proven to be corrupt.... when they pulled the documentary about David Koch because Koch threatened to withdraw contributions. N.P.R. ain't much better.

There needs to be new and different news sources.

People on FB who are sympathetic should check out Pantsuit Nation obviously started to support Hillary but very active now. The administrators post very current information. There is a NJ chapter but it is nationwide group. Its not a public page so although some people who are trolls get on there, the admins have rules and they are quickly booted off.

You can often find local people who are renting a bus to go to DC or are sharing hotel info.

Thanks for posting this. I think we ought to call them whenever they are set to do anything that is against our progressive values.

I'm a Trustee on the SOMA Coalition on Race and I will be working hard to keep the progressive agenda alive as well as to fight against bigotry, fascism and ignorance.

Is Maplewood a Sanctuary City? It seem like this could be a local initiative that could help local families.

Thanks for posting this. I mentioned the Underground Railroad in a different immigration thread but what you've posted here is exactly what I was trying to get across.

I am organizing a potluck dinner at my home. We will brainstorm. Not sure what we will want to accomplish or how to accomplish it, but it will be better than talking on facebook within our own bubbles. The idea is to get our voices heard. I want to know if my elected officials can hear me and if those above them can hear them.

I posted a petition on facebook and asked that no one click "Like" unless they also signed the petition. It's an experiment.

Tom do you want to post a link to the petition here? Or if you wish you could PM a link. Some may wish to add it to their page.
